Crema's Take

Sentient Bean is a beloved Savannah institution right by the park that has earned a devoted following with its entirely vegetarian menu and thoughtful vegan and gluten-free options—a rare find that caters to multiple dietary needs without compromise. The atmosphere strikes that perfect balance between a serious specialty coffee destination and a welcoming community gathering spot, with regulars praising the kind staff and slow, sit-down vibe that makes it ideal for lingering over a meticulously crafted drink like their notably strong dirty chai latte. Whether you're stopping by for a signature creative beverage, matcha tea, or light food, this is the kind of place where families, remote workers, and longtime locals all feel equally at home.

So grateful you are open on Christmas Day! The staff were kind and welcoming. Phenomenal selection vegetarian options. Dirty chai latte was stronger than I expected but my future self thanks you! Breakfast burrito was light, fresh and paired nicely with the cup of salsa. Easy going atmosphere.

This place was delicious! The entire menu is vegetarian, and the restaurant also included many vegan options. While I don’t have celiac disease I was also pleasantly surprised to find a variety of gluten free options as well (there were also warnings for nut allergies on the menu). Not only is the menu very accommodating, it is also very tasty as well. I tried the vegan breakfast tacos and they were delicious, high in plant based protein, and super healthy as well. Lastly, the customer service was amazing with everyone being super friendly. Overall I would highly recommend this place.

We loved the Sentient Bean and it’s such a cool and cute coffee shop right by the park. The food came pretty timely on a Sunday morning and the lines were pretty nonexistent. Would recommend for anyone looking for coffee and grub by the park. Vegan options too!

I don’t know what’s going on at the bean, but I’m tired of the disrespect. I’ve let a lot slide up until this point, but now I have to say something. I’ve been going here for over a decade and the service has never been so poor. I don’t even hang out there anymore, but even my experience of placing Togo and pickup orders has been extremely subpar. For one, why are the baristas acting like catty high schoolers. The person in front of me there all smiles and friendly. Then I get to the front and they’re frowning and acting upset. I don’t bother these people. Why do I get the attitude? It feels like some sort of racial tension or something. That’s my only explanation. They’ve gone as far as ignoring me and taking the order of the person I’m with, but the latest issues seem to be the final straw for me. I’ve been vegan for a decade and this is a place that purports to accommodate that, but the baristas have repeatedly given me non vegan items my past few visits. First it was the vegan breakfast burrito, and I should have just stopped going there then, but I know people make mistakes so I gave them grace, but today was a bridge too far. I ordered a cold brew with oat milk, and the barista made it with whole milk, luckily she labeled it, so I just asked if she could fix it. Instead of getting a new cup she just tossed the old coffee out and made the new one in the same cup. I don’t even think she rinsed it out. Disgusting. Terribly disrespectful as well. I can no longer spend my hard earned money here, and would suggest that any other black people in the area do the same.

I’m sure this place is great on some days, but I went on a very busy Saturday morning. The problem wasn’t that it was so busy but it seemed like the workers were having a hard time staying afloat while it was so busy. I’ve worked the industry so I get it. I ordered a black coffee, which is pretty much impossible to mess up, and a bagel. The bagel was terrible. Not only was the bagel gross and mushy but I got it cold. I was perplexed as to why they would hand me a cold bagel with a small cup of regular cream cheese. So I got back in the enormous line and asked them to cook it. They then politely pointed me towards a toaster. The toaster sucked. It didn’t work so after 10 minutes of trying to toast my bagel I gave up and just ate my warm bagel. Not the best experience. Probably wouldn’t get anything here except coffee. You’d be better off in a hotel lobby to be quite honest. Nice atmosphere tho so that’s a plus. The prices are very low as well.
