The Sultan Café
1500 NW 18th Ave, Portland, OR
Crema's Take
“This beloved Portland institution has mastered the art of making everyone feel like family, from the gracious staff who'll let you pay later if you forget your wallet to the complimentary cookies for kids and the consistently fresh Turkish coffee and falafel sandwiches that keep regulars coming back. After over 20 years, The Sultan Café remains a warm, clean gathering spot where the lamb gyros are reliably delicious and the genuine happiness of the team behind the counter is as much a part of the experience as the food itself. Whether you're grabbing a quick coffee or settling in for a slow afternoon, you'll find kindness and quality in equal measure.”

I’ve visited this place several times, and it has quickly become one of my favorite spots. My regular order is the falafel sandwich with Turkish coffee, and both are always fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The quality and consistency of the food keep me coming back. The prices are also very reasonable compared to many places in Portland, which makes it an even better value. On top of that, the owner is a genuinely kind and welcoming person who creates a warm atmosphere for customers. Highly recommended for anyone looking for delicious food, great service, and fair prices
Seriously the kindest staff ever. The gentleman at the front was so friendly and warm to my sister and I. At the end of our meal, he even gave my nephews cookies. This was my first time at Sultan Cafe, but it definitely will not be my last. This simple cafe had the best service I’ve experienced at any restaurant in Portland, (and I go to expensive restaurants all the time) and all it took was a warm smile and a family feel from start to finish.
I ordered, then stopped the guy, as I realized I had forgotten my wallet. He said "no worries, just come back and pay me later" 🥹 Protect this place. It gives me hope. Will edit when I get my lamb gyro Edit: gyro is great, and was ready almost before I finished writing this review
These guys are seriously great. My food is always delicious, the service is always fast, and best of all they are always really happy.
I can’t believe this place been open for little over 20 years and I’ve never tried it . Saw the place while driving so had to stop by . The place is clean and welcoming. Ordered the lamb gyro meal the gyro was so good all the ingredients were fresh and tasty . The Resturant decode reminded me of back home . Loved the Arabic music there were playing . Definitely will be back again and again I would recommend everyone to come in Portland to come and try it . Thank you Mahmoud for this great experience.
