Backatown Coffee Parlour
301 Basin St, New Orleans, LA
Crema's Take
“This Backatown gem pairs thoughtfully crafted cold brew and creative specialty drinks with a genuine neighborhood vibe that draws regulars and visitors alike. Beyond the coffee, the kitchen shines with fresh, crave-worthy options ranging from delicate quiches to inventive brunch plates like crawfish melts and Vietnamese iced coffee, making it easy to linger for hours. It's the kind of place where the community clearly gathers—Black-owned and woman-owned—with a warmth in both the space and service that makes you want to come back.”

Stopped by for coffee and a bite and was blown away! The coffee was delightful and the staff was super friendly. Plenty of choices for food, you can get a bite or a big snack or a full meal. I got the sandwich special which was a Crawfish Melt which was honestly so delicious, it made my whole morning and I considered buying a 2nd one 🔥 Atmosphere was calm and friendly with people enjoying their coffee and company.
There was a good morning crowd when we arrived, which is always a great sign. Unfortunately, there was only one gentleman doing the job of 4 employees for the entire establishment (so patience is required) and although he worked/ moved quickly, I could sense his frustration. Nonetheless, we left as satisfied customers. Coffees are reasonably priced and good. Crawfish quiche was great, Limoncello cake slice was refreshing. Loved it!!
I stopped in because I love supporting Black-owned, woman-owned businesses and saw great reviews. The space has a great vibe and the quiche I ordered was really good — fresh, flavorful, and worth trying. My only concern was the wait time. The line itself wasn’t long, but the wait was pretty significant just to get something simple like orange juice because there was only one staff member working at the time. I truly want to see this business thrive, so tightening up service speed would make a big difference. Wishing them the best and hoping to stop by again soon!
Nice spot! We got a Hibiscus Tea and a Cold Brew coffee The Tea was fantastic! The Cold Brew was a bit off. Something about it was kinda sour like it was old or the container had not been cleaned in a while. It wasn't terrible but not great. We assume we caught them on a slow / off day or something so we will re review next time. All in all it was not bad
Came into Nola for the weekend, and wanted to try a nice local place with my partner. We both had the Crawfish Melt and a Vietnamese Iced Coffee.. Couldn't have asked for a better brunch combo! The gentleman, Thomas, behind the counter, was such a nice person.. He recommended what to order, and happily explained what the sandwich was when I asked.. By far the best coffee/brunch experience I've ever had in Nola. I will 100% be back in the future, and gladly recommend this place to my friends for when they visit the city. Atmosphere, Food, Service... 10/10 with 2 thumbs up!
