Crema's Take

River City Cafe is a relaxed, unpretentious spot where the real magic happens in the kitchen—their creative burger lineup (peanut butter burger, anyone?) and crispy fried zucchini have earned loyal fans who keep coming back for both the food and the genuinely friendly service. It's the kind of casual, laid-back place that captures that perfect vacation vibe, ideal for lingering over a meal with family or friends without any pretension. While they nail the food and hospitality once you're seated, just be prepared for a potentially slower initial experience getting in the door.

Love this place, they have great burgers, the fried zucchini is awesome and they also have a great patty melt. Always friendly service and hot food. And thank you for changing the fries I was never a fan of fresh cut fries.

If you’re thinking about grabbing the peanut butter burger, try it! It might’ve given me some weird dreams that night but it was delicious and a unique experience. River City Cafe is also a great local staple spot, according to my cousin who lived nearby some years ago. The service was great. They do have TONS of peanuts everywhere, so if anyone has an allergy you should skip it. With that in mind, it’s surprisingly clean although it has a bit of a dive bar vibe with seats scrawled over with sharpies. If you want to look great under restaurant lighting for a special occasion with lots of photos, don’t go here at night. Their funky lighting was a slight drawback for me, and some photos didn’t come out well. The rest of the experience is really worth it - I just know it is important to get good photos sometimes. Maybe try it for lunch, in that case, to get natural lighting.

I got the dilly o burger, def recommend if you’re a pickle lover! (just ask for extra pickles there was only 3 on mine). Downside you can only have fries and slaw for a side, and you CAN’T sub the slaw. Another thing they put RAISINS in the slaw, who does that? And more than just a few. The onion rings are HUGE! 10/10 recommendation them. Great view! I don’t feel like our waitress came around enough and we never got the complimentary peanuts.

So we stopped at River City Café while hanging around Barefoot Landing and honestly, it’s one of those spots that feels like the definition of vacation food. The vibe is super laid back — like, you walk in and it’s not fancy at all, but that’s what makes it cool. Kinda like your buddy’s beach house but with way better burgers. The menu is stacked with burger options, and they’re huge. I got one that was literally bigger than my face (not complaining). Fries were on point too — crispy, salty, exactly what you want after walking around in the heat all day. They also bring peanuts to the table and you just throw the shells on the floor, which is fun in a messy, “my mom would hate this” kinda way. Service was chill — not over the top, but friendly. Prices weren’t bad either, especially since the portions are massive. Definitely more of a place you go in a swimsuit and flip flops than a dinner date spot, but that’s the whole charm. If you’re at Barefoot Landing and want something easy, filling, and actually really good, this is the move. 10/10 would go again, mostly for the burgers and the “I don’t care what my hair looks like right now” atmosphere.

Great food, great table service and casual dining. Could use lots of improvement on the front of the house and initial contact with customers. Several of us, customers, noted that there was a long wait to be acknowledged as you enter the restaurant. The interaction was much less than professional and made customers feel as though they were a burden to the establishment and employee at the station. While waiting outside many customers discussed the disappointment but assured others that the food was worth the insult. Next time we will try Joe’s Hamburgers which is located across the intersection. Folks say Joe’s has their act together, especially when they are busy. All this from waiting customers discussing frustration over poor interaction with initial customer contact.
