Boiler Room Coffee
1830 3rd Ave S, Minneapolis, MN
Crema's Take
“Boiler Room strikes that perfect balance between third-wave coffee craftsmanship and genuinely welcoming neighborhood hangout, with baristas who'll happily customize drinks like their beloved lavender honey vanilla latte or nail a classic iced mocha. The intimate, art-filled space—complete with a little library, local artwork, and thoughtful decor—creates an atmosphere that feels equally suited for lingering solo or catching up with friends over excellent pastries and light bites. It's the kind of place where the vibe itself becomes as memorable as the coffee, even if the dim lighting and occasional music volume take some getting used to.”

Tried this place for the first time today. The vibes were great, the barista was very kind and helpful, and my coffee was great! Highly recommend asking for a “lavender honey vanilla latte thing” - the drink was the perfect balances of flavors and also the perfect temp!
I have to agree with some of the more negative reviews about this place, and say that the barista had really weird and bad vibes. I waited at the register for two minutes because the barista was busy with someone else, which I was totally fine with, and even told them to take their time. However, when I was ordering my drink, the barista was clearly impatient, and gave the universal hand motion for "hurry up". It was bizarre, especially because I wasn't hesitating or indecisive when ordering my drink. It was a really strange encounter, and in retrospect, I should have just said I didn't want to order, and gone to another coffee shop. I will not be going to this spot ever again. Coffee wasn't anything to write home about, and atmosphere was nothing exceptional.
This locale steps it up with their succulents, staff and delectable delights. The classic Iced Mocha is always my fave. I love the little library, queer items and local artwork. They also have a printer if you're in need of printed physical copies of your documents
The vibes alone sell this place for me. The delicious coffee and friendly service were the icing on the cake (I don't think they sell cake, but they do have muffins and pastries and bagels etc.). Local art is featured on the wall and for sale. Little plants find their homes in the window sills and there's even a shelf of mini succulents you can buy if you want to take some vibes home with you. I got the Lavender Haze which was a really well balanced flavor. There's also a shelf with books and actually really solid board games available. I wish I had time to stay a while longer.
Really cozy cafè! Lots of drink options too, as well as $3 hot Earl Grey’s. Music was good, a little on. the loud side but it didn’t bug me too much. The lights are dim so the space is a bit dark, this makes for a cozy work environment - just what I was looking for. Board game options and good seating, including 1 couch and some soft chairs. Employee/owner was very friendly and welcoming, I was greeted right when I came in which is always nice! Great spot to just unwind with a cup of coffee/tea or to grab something on your way to work, I noticed there were some sandwiches available for sale too.
