Mattheessen’s Candy Kitchen
419 D Duval St, Key West, FL
Crema's Take
“Mattheessen's is a beloved Key West institution where massive, hand-crafted cookies steal the show—their peanut butter and chocolate chip varieties are legendary enough to have visitors regretting they didn't buy more. Beyond the cookies, you'll find their homemade key lime pie with a thick graham cracker crust and house-made macaroons that are worth the detour, all served by staff who genuinely make you feel welcome whether you're grabbing a quick sweet treat or settling in for a slower indulgence. It's the kind of family-friendly spot where the quality of the pastries and candies keeps people coming back, and where first-time visitors often leave wishing they'd discovered it sooner.”

I’m usually not one to rave about cookies but omg. They were to die for. Their peanut butter cookie was phenomenal. We also enjoyed their chocolate chip nut & sprinkle cookies. Theyre huge and so flavorful. Highly recommend trying one!!!
I stumbled upon this little gem. Loved the key lime pie but the macaroons were on point. I only bought one and didn’t try it until I was back on the cruise ship. Then immediately wished I would’ve bought 12 more. Looking to order more for my birthday in February.
Mattheessen’s has their own spin on Key West key lime pie, with a fairly thick hand made graham cracker crust, and whipped cream by request. I like a thicker crust, so I enjoyed the flavor fusion of crunch with the creamy smooth tart lime flavor. This place is made for tourists, much like Kermit’s, though has more general dessert options including giant cookies, fudge, and ice cream. Sure to find something sweet for everyone’s taste in the family!
We went to 3 ice cream shops in Key West and we can say this is the best!!! Cookie selection was great too and the size of each cookie was huge! ❤️ wish we knew this place sooner ❤️amazing staff too! Drop by and support them!
This is the best spot to get sweet treats on Key West. The cookies are what they are known for and for good reason. Just walking by you will see how ginormous they are. The cookies - chocolate chip, sugar, peanut butter, and peanut butter with chocolate icing with fudge on top are all top notch. I loved them all. They also have great options to choose from of their homemade ice cream or milkshakes. I was very happy with the triple chocolate ice cream and the birthday cake ice cream. Pro tip: they will warm up the cookie if you ask and they also sell to go cups of milk if you need it.
