The Sahara Cafe

Crema's Take
“Tucked away in Manitou Springs, this charming café captures a slice of the Mediterranean with its warm, old-timey atmosphere complete with beautiful Turkish lamps—the kind of place you might stumble upon by accident and immediately feel like you've discovered something special. Beyond their specialty teas like hot sage that locals rave about, they serve generous mezze plates and kebabs that draw comparisons to beloved Mediterranean restaurants, all delivered with attentive service that makes you feel genuinely welcomed. It's the rare spot that works equally well for a long, lingering coffee date or a casual family meal, where the unhurried pace and genuine hospitality seem to be just as much a part of the menu as the food itself.”

Husband and I actually ended up at Sahara Café by complete accident. We walked into the wrong place and it turned out to be the best “mistake” we could’ve made. From the second we walked in, the service was unmatched. You can immediately feel the energy inside it’s warm, welcoming, and genuinely inviting. The kind of place where you feel taken care of without it being forced. And the food? Incredible. The portions are HUGE, packed with flavor, and honestly very reasonably priced for what you get. Every bite tasted fresh and made with care. If you’re in Manitou and wondering where to eat, stop in and check it out. We’re so glad we did.
Little old time feel cafe with beautiful Turkish lamps. The hot sage tea was very good. The cold sage tea has less flavor due to the ice. Shared the messe plate. It was enough for the two of us. They also sell ice cream, coffee, and smoothies. The Turkish coffee was very good and has a high caffeine content.
Please if you’re here at the Cave of the winds and starving don’t come to this place! The lady was nice to be honest but there was a guy waiter he was the rudest! They got our order wrong and we still had to either eat or leave! And the food was cold
I was visiting from Las Vegas and came across this place. I’ve dined at several mediterranean restaurants in the past and this is one of my favorite cuisines. I ordered the chicken kebab plate. The chicken had flavor and was seasoned properly but it was extremely dry, which was unfortunate. The hummus was good as was the pita bread. Unfortunately, the restaurant fell well short of my expectations and what I’m accustomed to having. Kudos, to my server. She did a good job.
Mediterranean food is my absolute favorite and I love trying new places from different areas. The service here is amazing! We were greeted promptly, and our waitress was very attentive. The cafe is quaint and cozy, love the regional decor. It was steadily busy while we were there but everyone was greeted quickly! The good: The sage tea was amazing! Very good flavor whether enjoying it hot or cold The hummus was very good. Portions were good sized. (Two people could easily share a plate) The chocolate baklava was to die for! Served warm and so delicate and amazing. Right down the street from the penny arcade. The not so good: Prices are very high (understandable for the tourist area but I was hoping the food would match) The felafel was almost cold, had it been hot it would have been a different story as the flavors were good but it wasn't. The lamb was tough. Overall for a salad, a combo kabob plate, order of felafel and a baklava and 2 teas we paid over $80 which is steep for a lunch in my opinion. Especially to walk away disappointed at the food quality. I'm happy we tried somewhere new today, the flavors were unique, I love Manitou Springs so I was excited to try Sahara Cafe today.
