Cafe Buenos Aires
644 Polk St, San Francisco, CA
Crema's Take
“Tucked near Caltrain, Cafe Buenos Aires is a petite gem that nails the fundamentals: their pastries are genuinely special, with layers of flavor and quality ingredients that shine whether you're grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a longer sit. The empanadas—particularly the chorizo and beef varieties—are the real draw here, warm and satisfying without the grease that weighs down lesser versions, making this a worthwhile detour in a neighborhood that doesn't have many options worth your time.”

Very cute boutique cafe. Pastries are fresh with quality ingredients. Every bite had layers of flavors. Fluffy, lightly sugar pasteries with dense vanilla or chocolate filling. Clean and modern
I came here before heading to the Caltrain station. There isn’t as much food around this area as I was guessing but Cafe Buenos Aires was a real gem. It’s a pretty small space, with seating for maybe 10-15 people total including chairs outside. The staff working seem to have a number of regulars, as while I was there (for about an hour), multiple people came in and chatted with them, which was nice to see! They have a pretty expansive menu of empanadas, with lots of veggie options and a good selection of vegan options. You order at the front and they heat them for you before serving — it took about 5 minutes to get my order after ordering. The empanadas themselves were amazing. I ordered a Humita and a Nopales empanada. Both were delicious, and the Humita was a type I’ve never had before. Next time I’m in SF, I’ll come back to try more of them!!
The empanadas are delicious. However, the website allows you to order and pick up at 9am. When I arrived, they open at 9am. The employee arrived at 9:03am. It took a while to heat up the oven and package everything. I added instructions to separate the orders and that wasnt followed. I didn't leave the store until 9:40am! Which made me late to work. If the shop opens at 9am. Someone should be there before to set up and be ready. And also, the website shouldn't allow pick up at 9am if they're not ready. Come here if youre not in a rush.
Tried the chicken empanada and was underwhelmed given the high reviews that this cafe has. It was nice that the empanadas were not greasy but the leading flavor was saltiness and I felt unsatisfied with the texture of the wrapping. Additionally, the price didn’t seem to align with the serving size. Aside from that, great service and cute interior!
Delicious premade and warmed up on the spot empanadas. Chorizo and beef were absolutely delicious. The refresher was alright in flavor.
