Downtime Bakery
6624 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA
Crema's Take
“Downtime Bakery is a sun-filled neighborhood gem on Germantown Avenue where the real star is the pastries and bread—locals rave about arriving right at 9 AM opening for personal banana breads that feel genuinely restorative, plus standout tomato pies and seasonal specials like apple cider donuts. The space itself invites lingering with plenty of tables and a warm crew behind the counter, making it equally perfect for a quick solo coffee moment or settling in with friends over a bagel and coffee.”

Get there right at 9 when they open, order one of their little personal banana breads and feel the seasonal depression melt away. My god. Sometimes a really amazing baked good reminds you that life is worth living, and this is one of those baked goods. Still warm, perfectly sweet with a delicately crunchy, caramelized top. Gorgeous.
Love this bakery! A favorite place to meet up with friends and enjoy a bagel/pastry etc. The people who work there are super nice...It is cute and sunny inside, lots of tables. As a vegetarian, love that it is vegetarian :) A highlight for me: I love bahn mi and I had the best bahn mi here once! Also love the bagels. Highly recommend.
Obsessed with Downtime. What a wonderful addition to the neighborhood, and Philadelphia at large. Really incredible people offering fantastically delicious baked goods. The sandwiches are my favorite part!!! In a town full of hoagies, I love that I found somewhere to get a crispy, chewy focaccia sandwich with something pickled and a fancy cheese on it. I only dock two stars for atmosphere because the lack of outdoor seating is a major bummer at an otherwise perfect spot.
This is easily one of our favorite spots on Germantown Ave! Incredible people work here. Amazing bread. Out-of-this-world pastries every morning. Sometimes they’ll do specials (apple cider donuts have been my favorite), and you’ll need to get there early to scoop them up, which is only a true testament to how incredible their bakery is! We have loved this spot since it opened. If you’re anywhere near Philly, this is an absolute must to stop into! You’ll be going back again & again!
Requested bagels to be toasted but they weren't. They were still delicious but probably would've been amazing warm. Coffee was not tasty. Tomato pie was delicious per my daughter, but I feel like you should ask before giving a corner piece. There was barely any tomato with the tomato pie. Other baked goods we got were good. Unsure if I would go again. Maybe to try a toasted/warm bagel. Love that they were made from sourdough. Parking was on the street but not too challenging to find. Barely any wait inside. Cute inside with a few tables available to eat in. Love that patrons had the option to compost their trash when appropriate :)
