Grits and Eggs Breakfast Kitchen
699 Spring St NW, Atlanta, GA
Crema's Take
“Grits and Eggs is a convivial Atlanta breakfast destination where the coffee and cocktails draw people in for leisurely morning gatherings, though the kitchen's execution can be wonderfully inconsistent—some guests rave it's the best meal of their lives while others find their hollandaise clumpy and service unpredictable. The warm, personal atmosphere and willingness to linger make it feel less like a quick bite and more like a proper occasion, especially for celebrations and friend dates, even if you might wait 30+ minutes for your plate.”

Felt kinda personal. Drinks were good, food took over 30 mins, despite later tables all getting theirs first. Food flat out was not good. The hollandaise sauce was clumpy, bananas foster didn't have bananas, steak was a flat and well done when ordered rare and the burger bun was soggy. They replaced most things, not the burger. The bananas foster was just caramel sauce, hollandaise was still meh, and I got a completely different steak than the first... cooked rare...but beyond bland. Also the bathroom was beyond trashed. Will not be returning.
Truly the best meal I’ve ever had in my life. This was one of the last restaurants we visited on our Deep South tour. We were staying in Smyrna and decided to walk a solid 45 minutes to get there, and it was worth every step. They were happy for us to sit outside, which made it even better. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with classic Southern hospitality. Our waitress, Miss Bella, was fantastic. We told her to choose our dishes for us and she absolutely nailed it. We had the fried catfish, shrimp and grits, and chicken and waffles. Every single plate was incredible. They even threw in some beignets on the house for us to try. The sweet tea was perfect too. Honestly, it was the highlight of our entire trip. The owner even came out at the end to say hello and have a chat. Super nice guy. We had a great conversation. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
This had to be one of the best experiences I've ever had in my life, especially for my Birthday. A friend and I was looking for somewhere to have breakfast and cocktails so we decided to come to Grits and Eggs Breakfast Kitchen, since neither one of us had ever been there. We walked in the door about 4:50 PM not paying attention to the hours of operation until we read it on the door sign. A lady walked up to us with the biggest smile and greeted us as if we were the First customers of the day instead of the last. She asked if we wanted to sit at a table or sit at the Bar? I advised that I wanted to eat in since it was my Birthday but offered to grab our order To Go since we came sooo close to the restaurant's closing time. The Lady looked at us with an even bigger smile and said " OH NO" It's your Birthday, you absolutely may sit down and enjoy one of our Delicious Entrees" We were uneasy at first as we did not want our food to be rushed or have a rushed experience. She quickly read our expressions and said " I'm the closer. I'm going to be here for a while, so please sit down , enjoy your day and leave the rest to us". I was in complete Aww. We ordered the Shrimp and Grits. Our food came out Hot, the presentation was Amazing and the Shrimp and Grits were to die for. Upon finishing our food, the Kind Lady came out of nowhere with a plate decorated with the words "Happy Birthday " with Beignets topped with a delicious warm Strawberry Sauce and whipped cream. Her and another lady Angelically sang the Stevie Wonder version of the Birthday Song to me. I Truly felt like a King!! Thank you to the both of them. My friend copied down the name of this Angel that jump started my Birthday off to such a wonderful experience from our receipt it read " Shonya" Thank you Ms. SHONYA from the bottom of our hearts, for your kind words and caring heart. What you didn't know was , this was my first Birthday without my Beautiful Mother. Your Kind Heart, Nurturing Spirit and Compassion allowed me to feel my Mother's Presence...A Gift that money can not buy. I left the restaurant with my heart overflowing and a feeling of being Truly Blessed. We were the only ones in the restaurant and to your Guarantee, you made us feel like CELEBRITIES. Grits and Eggs Breakfast Kitchen shall forever be my New Favorite Breakfast spot. We can not wait to come back....we will be there earlier next time😅
My husband found this place on our way out for an outing and I'm so glad he did. We were greeted by the hostess upon arrival and sat down immediately. I ordered a passion fruit lemonade which was delicious but extremely sweet. I did have to water it down a bit with my glass of water. Our server was very attentive and was able to help my husband when it came down to what dish he recommended was the best. My husband ordered the catfish and grits which he was very appreciative the server suggested. I ordered a create your own omelette: cheddar cheese, bacon and spinach. Our son had the scrambled eggs with cheese, sausage patty and toast. We also ordered the beignets which were phenomenal. We enjoyed this place and can't wait to come back and visit in the future.
Where should we start - --The Good: Grits were tasty and seasoned well. -- The Bad: Subpar service especially when you don't understand what the waiter (Trett??) is saying. The coffee was advertised as " hot coffee" but it was lukewarm and at one point just plain cold.. They obviously was having problems with their coffee machine? I approached two people who were behind a counter to let them know our coffee was cold. Later someone named Mia came over to asked how was everything?? Everything wasn't good... Her name should be 'Missing in Action' (Mia) cause she never came back anytime later. I again signal to someone ( Manager) I hadn't received my coffee with my meal nor all of my order.. SMH Our table ordered the catfish and grits, which looked like the cat fish filet was sliced in half portions and split among two orders.. swimming in grits. Others ordered the salmon and grits, which looked the same. As well as veggie dish, and another salmon with eggs. ( Please review pics and what's your thoughts 💬?) The presentation of the meal was differently missing . At that price point there should've been some garnish of parsley or something for their high price.. Nope...just nickel and dime customers for cheese... The OMG : One would think after going back and forth with cold coffee someone would've came to the table to apologize and offer to remove from our bill? Forgot to mention we were taking friends out for their birthday.. and I had went online to reserve a table that an email replied "someone from our team will be contacting you.." When I explained and showed email to manager ( Shawn) he said they don't take reservations.. Oh welllll Customer Service is lacking and there's room for improvement in ALL aspects. Charging high prices in a place that lacks atmosphere won't work in the long run. Our bill was $177 with tax.$225 with tip for six people Do better ✅
