Craftsman and Wolves - The Den

1598 Yosemite Ave, San Francisco, CA

Crema's Take

The Den is a sleek, light-filled space where serious coffee meets seriously good pastries, with a rotating selection of creative baked goods like their signature Rebel Within alongside classics like croissants and financiers that justify the premium pricing. Their specialty drinks go beyond the basics—think nitro cold brew and custom creations like a sipping chocolate elevated with an espresso shot—while their thoughtful food menu spans from avocado toast to salads, making it an easy spot to linger for a meeting or slow morning. It's the kind of place where every component, from the Valhrona chocolate to the house-made biscones, feels intentional and well-crafted.

good coffee/drink options. quite a large and interesting selection of baked goods and food (sandwiches, salads, other breakfast items). feels a bit pricey to drop $15-20 for a cafe item, but they are good (we love the upper crust sandwich!) only complaint is that the quality can sometimes be inconsistent.

The Den has a bright, slick look and their pastries all look so delicious. I didn't try their signature pastry The Rebel Within because it looks small (though I bet very tasty), instead I had a Roxanne Sandwich, it's pastrami on sourdough and it was well flavored but a bit pricey for the size. I also tried the "chocolate croissant", which is actually made from "chocolatey" dough so it's quite interesting and not too sweet. Not ideal for a big breakfast but if you fancy delicate pastries this is the place.

I tried their Cocoa Carrot Muffin, Stumptown Nitro Brew, sipping chocolate with seasonal marshmallow and an added espresso shot (I asked : ) making it a Hulk Smash of a mocha, and their Rebel Within (recommend it warm). We also got a travel cake and croissant to go. Everything we tried was delicious and the baked goods were very fresh. I'm a huge fan of Neighbor Bakehouse and would certainly put this up there. They also have a strong coffee selection including this beauty: Black Tonic (espresso, tonic water, and lemon). The convenience to home and ample street parking will have me coming back. Most importantly, they're now open on the weekend and have awesome folks working behind the counter.
