Spanish Town Market and Cofé
701 Spanish Town Rd, Baton Rouge, LA
Crema's Take
“Spanish Town Market and Cofé captures the casual, community-driven spirit of Baton Rouge's creative neighborhood, offering a Saturday omelet bar that's become a local gathering spot alongside solid coffee and breakfast sandwiches. While execution can be inconsistent—some visitors rave about the Cajun burger and friendly service, while others find the specialty coffee aspirations fall short—the place shines brightest as a weekend breakfast destination where you're as likely to bump into neighbors as you are to grab a quick, well-made meal.”

I really wanted to like this place. I’ve been multiple times for the Saturday omelet bar and each visit has left a worse impression. On one visit, I was standing at the omelet station talking with a friend who was working there while he prepared my food. The owner approached me and told me, twice, in a dismissive tone to “go sit down” and that they would bring it out when ready. I wasn’t in the way, not causing disruption — just having a normal conversation. The tone was unnecessary and frankly rude. A prior weekend after the farmers market, the atmosphere felt equally unwelcoming. The owner’s attitude toward customers comes off cold and irritated rather than hospitable. I’ve also heard from others that regulars have been asked to leave if they’re not actively waiting on something. For a place that markets itself as community-focused, that’s disappointing. The building has charm and the concept has potential. But service and hospitality matter. Right now, the vibe does not match the branding.
this place is a joke. the food is expensive and sub-par. the coffee is a try-hard barista set up that doesnt deliver. apparently, Horatio has curated a list of long time customers that he has asked that they order their coffee to go rather than sit and converse with their neighbors. if you are easily impressed by an old building that is falling apart and dont care about the quality of food or service, this place is for you!
I visited on a Friday around 1pm. Most of the places were closed or closing. I went to try the Hydration Juice bar but I was told after about 10 minutes that they were closed that day. I then moved on to Oh la la to order some wings or pizza. The employee came after a while and said that they were closing and wasn’t serving. Nice neighborhood spot with indoor and outdoor sitting. I guess I need to go earlier next time. Parking is not readily available. I end up parking about a block away on North street.
The Cajun Burger is fantastic! Great flavor and they made it quickly. Very friendly service as well. Will definitely be back for lunch as they have a lot of things on the menu. They also many coffee options and fresh bread for sale that looked good. Highly recommend for downtown lunch/breakfast.
Was in the neighborhood after Red Stick Farmers Market and as pleasantly surprised! Coffee was good along with breakfast sandwiches but the service was great!
