The Walnut Avenue Cafe
106 Walnut Ave, Capitola, CA
Crema's Take
“Tucked into Capitola, this beloved neighborhood spot strikes a balance between casual charm and culinary care, earning consistent praise for their thoughtfully crafted breakfast dishes like Blackened Ahi Eggs Benedict with silky hollandaise and fluffy pancakes that keep locals coming back. The inviting atmosphere makes it an easy place to linger over coffee with friends, though portions can feel modest for the price—a trade-off regulars seem willing to make for the quality ingredients and genuine hospitality. Whether you're seeking a leisurely morning with a perfectly steamed latte or sharing a spread of eggs, avocado toast, and Belgian waffles, this is the kind of place that feels like a genuine extension of the Capitola community.”

Over priced under delivered. Portions were not 20$ plate sizes. Black olives on a heuvos rancheros feels distinctly American. Belgium waffles with caramelized bananas and walnuts had so little toppings and what was there was mushy and not grilled in the slightest. Toast for the omlette came completely dry. A large oj is miniscule. For downtown santa cruz prices this is not the move. Possible if you HAVE to eat somewhere but there are better choices
I ordered the Blackened Ahi Eggs Benedict. Wonderful hollandaise sauce, thick in texture and flavorful. The tuna was generously seasoned with only a little bit of heat. It was a perfect brunch meal. Inside the restaurant is spacious but is popular so a little loud inside but they do offer outdoor seating if that is an issue for your party. Definitely check out this cafe.
We order to share , eggs Benedict with home fries, very good and the Hollandaise much better, pancakes , nice, fluffy and tasty and the avocado burger with home fries, very tasty and the home fries really crispy. The service was excellent, ours waitress was very nice, helpful and smiling all the time. Atmosphere I think need some renovation and better decor. You can seat inside or outside. For sure I will back if I’m in the area.
Delicious breakfast! I had the pesto tomato scramble and added sausage and feta cheese- so flavorful. We also ordered the Walnut Ave special with eggs and Canadian bacon, plus hazelnut and vanilla lattes, which were great. Huge shoutout to Emily, who was so sweet and helpful. We were initially seated in the back near the staff doorway where there was a lot of traffic, and my friend who is pregnant couldn’t move easily when people passed. Emily, with a huge smile on a very busy Sunday, made sure we got a better table. Shy, our waitress, was awesome- fast service and she always made sure our coffee was full. Great food and even better service.
Out of all the restaurants I have ate in the santa cruz area so far I was pleasantly surprised by the food and service of this establishment! It was pretty well priced and the food also tasted really good, one of the better burgers I’ve had throughout the Santa Cruz region so if you do come here I would for-sure recommend the hamburgers! The only complaint that id have is that the chilaquiles didn’t taste that authentic so if you want a classic mexican chilaquiles taste I doubt you’d get it here, otherwise this place was definitely worth a visit and if you’re in the downtown area of santa cruz please check it out!
