Claire's Corner Copia
1000 Chapel St, New Haven, CT
Crema's Take
“Tucked into New Haven, this vegetarian-friendly corner spot is a breath of fresh air for anyone tired of standard diner fare, with thoughtfully labeled vegan and gluten-free options alongside housemade pasta, pizza, and standout baked goods. The warm, welcoming atmosphere makes it a natural gathering place for Yale visitors and locals alike, though fair warning: the chai latte doesn't quite match the kitchen's other strengths. Order at the counter, clear your own table, and come hungry—the portions are generous and the eggplant parm is genuinely worth the trip.”

Rethink before you go here. My fiance and I were visiting Yale and like to trying local places, so we were all in when we saw a diner with good reviews. When we walked in the place was not busy in any sense, we go to counter and order the Irish breakfast and the avocado confetti tartine with an egg added on. We then sat at an open table where we proceeded to wait for 30 minutes. During that time we saw people getting their food who came in after us. Finally I asked at the counter if there were any issues to which I was met with confusion and the explanation that our order had never made it to the kitchen. 15 minutes later we got our food with the excuse that our order had been "rerouted". The avocado confetti had what appeared to be a half cut store bought roll with premade guac and half cut cherry tomatoes. The additional egg was haphazardly put to the side with little to no seasoning. When it came to the Irish breakfast I acknowledge that the eggs are fried in olive oil, however, I did not expect the mushroom-pepper-tomato mix as well as potatoes to be soaking in it as well. Overall food tasted marginal at best. My policy is you don't go to a restaurant if you can make better food yourself and we definitely could've done that in this case. My advice would be to avoid this place and go to one of the numerous other local breakfast/lunch spots dotted around campus.
This was my first time here as a vegetable and it's such an amazing feeling looking at a menu where all the food is "safe". Everything is also clearly labeled for vegans and gluten free people!
Highly recommend the eggplant parm and baked goods. Highly discourage ordering the chai latte and bread roll that comes with the entrees. There’s a huge menu and it’s perfect for groups with mixed diets.
Had dinner during visit to Yale. Loved that the restaurant has lots of vegetarian choices. Lots of pizza, pasta and salad options. Made fresh . Friendly staff. Lovely decor and ambiance.
Anytime we visit family in New Haven area, we make a point of having lunch at Claire's, especially after a night of pizza! Order at the counter, bus your table. Food is fabulous and healthy, portions are large. Tip - salads and soups come with a small loaf of bread, you can ask to leave it off your order. I didn't try and substitute, just didn't want it because the salad is large and has croutons. You can get a to-go box for leftovers. Tea selection was good and water was hot.
