Big Wave Dave Surf & Coffee

Booked a small group lesson and had an awesome experience. All the staff was great, the shop is full of awesome gear/merch, and everything you need is at hand. Instructor Derek was helpful and cool to chat with and took great care of two first timers. I've always wanted to go surfing and the crew made it a memorable day (helped by photos and video from on site photographer Jake, who was also great)! Great shop and team of people, definitely go check them out.

Did the surf course here for $129. Felt rushed because I booked an early time and two people I got grouped with was 40 minutes late, so we only ended up with 50 minutes of instruction. The employees were nice and instructor was good at teaching. Did learn the basics and how to surf, but didn’t feel it was worth it.

Derek was awesome! He took our three kids and my husband out for their first time ever surfing and it was so fun! He was helpful, down to earth, met them at their level and literally gave the shirt off his back to our son who’s short sleeve rash guard wasn’t cutting it. What a guy:) What an iconic adventure- learning to surf at Waikiki! Highly recommend:)

Hidden gem this side of Waikiki. I live here wasn’t in the mood to wait out one of my girls ‘ surf lessons (also offered thru Big Wave Dave’s - another recommend to write later) - she’s visiting from mainland… Feeling peckish while waiting, I ordered a Nutella & banana crepe & Plantation Tea. I was expecting a wimpy crepe with hardly a dollop of Nutella and barely 1/2 banana like I got elsewhere on island. I OWN IT — I judged & I WAS WRONG: I got a massive Nutella-y banana-packed crepe. It had what seemed to be a whole banana in it (unexpected from experiences elsewhere). Nutella was generously spread & piped throughout. There was a nice portion of whipped cream as well. The Plantation tea was equally full of fruity goodness! There were whole strawberries and blueberries in the tea to munch upon when the liquid was gone. The ladies behind the counter were courteous and friendly, they complement the cafe wonderfully. I have this cafe in on my go to list When I have friends & family visiting or when I just have a hankering for a deliciously made crepe. BTW: if u want a good crepe there are all sorts of sweet &/or savory fillings/toppings you can get.

I had a great first time surfing experience with Big Wave Dave Surf and Coffee. My instructor, Josh, was amazing. He was patient, kind, and really supportive, especially toward the end when I was tired and struggling to paddle back. He gave clear tips and lots of positive encouragement, which helped me feel confident out there. I did purchase the photography and videography package, but unfortunately no footage was captured. That was disappointing, because I really wanted those memories. The good news is the staff handled it quickly and refunded the package with no issues. Overall, I had a wonderful time and I am excited to keep learning. I would absolutely take more lessons here and I am grateful for the experience.
