Crema's Take

This intimate Alameda roastery has earned loyal devotion for its consistently excellent espresso work, particularly their standout cappuccinos and lattes adorned with impressive latte art. The real heart of Highwire lies in its genuinely warm staff who make regulars and bike-ride passersby alike feel equally welcomed, making it the kind of neighborhood spot where you'll find yourself returning whether you're after a quick grab or a lingering sit on the outdoor patio. While some recent inconsistency with oat milk drinks has given pause to a few, the shop's commitment to both traditional espresso drinks and thoughtful pour-overs keeps drawing people back.

I'm pretty bummed to be writing this but something's changed in the last few months. Every oat milk espresso based drink I've ordered (and I've tried three different ones) has been mediocre to undrinkable. Something changed, clearly. Service, atmosphere, beans, non oatmilk stuff is still solid but something has really deteriorated in the oatmilk space here. I'm so sad cause for YEARS this was THE spot for an iced oatmilk mocha on a hot day and a hot one on cold days. I thought it was just the mochas, but alas even lattes with oatmilk just taste...off. I hope there's improvement but probably can't keep trying over and over or that'll just lead to insanity for me. BY THE WAY, THIS DOESN'T APPLY TO MONTCLAIR OR ROCKRIDGE. WHICH IS WHY I'M EVEN MORE CONFUSED. Edit 2/11/26: Never mind, regular mocha sucked too. Unsure what's going on, just has no oomph and pretty much no depth to the pull. Maybe it's the machine itself, maybe it's me. Sigh.

I’ve been coming here a long time, my fave place to get a latte when I am not making them at home. Today the latte art delivered an unexpected and delightful heart-headed swan so I had to take a photo, which in return reminded me I was overdue leaving a 5 star review. I understand the safety reason behind them no longer offering the toasted Boichik bagels, but as a savory not a sweet person I really do miss being able to get a snack here to go with my coffee.

This small little coffee shop has excellent service and a delicious latte. It was just right for a stopover on our bike trip along the beach. There is some space to sit outside to enjoy your coffee and the neighborhood. Inside they are having a fun little Polaroid photo exhibition.

Really enjoying going to this local coffee shop in Alameda. The staff are the main factor as to why I choose Highwire Coffee. They are super friendly and welcoming. The only down side is I tend to always show up for a bag of coffee when they are out. I personally prefer light roast coffee which they have and recently learned that they get their shipment of coffee bags on Tuesday around 1pm (fyi). Can’t say anything about their espresso drink as I have yet to order one but worth stopping by and trying and experiencing such friendly coffee staff.
