Crema's Take

Zaguán brings authentic Venezuelan flavors to Dallas with genuinely delicious arepas, tequeños, and pastries that transport regulars and newcomers alike—this isn't approximated cuisine, it's the real thing, especially beloved by those craving a taste of home. The café strikes that rare balance of being both a reliable neighborhood spot for your morning coffee and pastry run and a destination worth planning lunch around, with a warm vibe that keeps people coming back despite the occasional off day.

I’m a regular at Zagua and I usually love the vibe, the food, and the service — that’s why this experience really surprised me. Today I came during lunch hours (which I normally don’t), and the service was extremely poor. There were two waiters I had never seen before — one with very messy hair and another guy with his shirt halfway unbuttoned, chest completely out. I was hoping to see Gonzalo or Luis (the usual great servers), but neither of them were there. No one greeted me or my family. No music was playing. No one checked on us. We waited over 20 minutes after getting menus, and not a single person came to our table. We eventually got up and left — and they didn’t even notice us leaving. Very disappointing experience, especially for a place I normally love. Lunch service needs serious improvement. Sadly, I don’t recommend coming during lunch hours.

First off just want to say if you're looking for authentic, and I mean genuinely authentic Venezuelan food then this is the place. My family lives a long distance from me so I don't get a chance to see them often, but when I do my mother or aunt is making hallacas, and the hallacas here are exactly like I've known them to be my entire life. So this is the spot. Not to mention Carlos was great to talk to and a really friendly person. You can't mess up if you're looking for some VZLA cuisine and a friendly atmosphere to go along with it.

Delicious food! There's nothing like this place around. Coming from someone that lives in Miami for 30 years, this place is legit. I've had several dishes and all have been a hit. Since they are a bakery the arepas and bread is hands down amazing. The Cuban sandwich is excellent! Great pork and ham. Love the Argentine empanadas! You can't go wrong here.

I ordered a beef/cheese arepa and tequeños from Zagaun. When I picked up my order mid evening on a weeknight, I was the only customer in there. I really wanted to like this meal but did not enjoy it. I did not enjoy the way the beef was cooked on the arepa and did not enjoy the overall flavor profile. The banana chips that it came with were very bland. The tequeños were tasty but would benefit from a dipping sauce. For $23 dollars, I would have expected better quality food. Overall, I was disappointed by my experience here and do not plan on coming back.

We ordered from here today for lunch to be delivered for 5 people. The first time any of us have tried this place. Ordering to delivery was smooth, food arrived pretty quickly, and warm. All orders were correct except 1, it was chicken instead of beef. I ordered the Two Arepas with chips. I got ham and chicken. The chicken was tender and had good flavor. They put a good amount of cheese with it. I had no issues with my meal, it tasted good, not sure the Arepas are for me. Next time I will try the Cuban sandwich. This place does not label the meals so it took a minute to go through all orders to get the right one for each person. Not sure why some places are good with labeling and others not. Would make it easier on large orders if they would.
