Catalpa Coffee
269 Pleasant St, Northampton, MA
Crema's Take
“Catalpa is an espresso-focused spot that takes its coffee seriously enough to impress even well-traveled coffee enthusiasts, with a thoughtful menu of specialty drinks and pour-overs alongside a rotating selection of teas from around the world. The vibe is welcoming and unhurried—locals linger for hours over their oat milk lattes and savory pastries like scallion biscuits with ham and cheddar, and the staff is genuinely friendly enough to let non-customers use the restroom, which speaks volumes about their community-first approach. It's the kind of place where you can settle in with wifi and a croissant that actually rivals the good ones, whether you're meeting a friend or claiming a quiet corner by the outdoor seating.”

Staff was super friendly and food and drink were amazing!
Great coffee. And extra bonus points for being one of the very few places in the neighborhood of the train station that actually lets someone use the restroom even if they are not a customer. A. rare and much appreciated courtesy these days.
Catalpa has been a game changer for my husband and I. We are particularly well versed with coffee and we travel frequently. Wherever we go, we look for a great latte, it's just our thing. Catalpa has thus far been pretty unbeatable, the texture, flavor profile and service is always wonderful. The staff is always so friendly and outgoing. I cannot speak to the food aspect because I am gluten free but my daughter really appreciates when they have blueberry muffins! I do wish they offered some gluten free options other than the yogurt parfait and oatmeal, but everything else makes up for that. Miguel particularly has an amazing craft and it's a wonder to me how he makes such a great Mocha. Even our kids love their hot chocolates and brewed iced teas. Try it out, you won't be disappointed!
Tea and coffee from around the world, and tasty treats like scallion biscuits with ham, cheddar, and eggs, or chèvre cheese with blueberries on toast! The croissant reminded me of the ones Panera used to make. It was a bit hard, like it was a day old maybe, but it was tasty. The cookies were perfection, and the matcha was good. Parking out front but it is a busy road and snow banks make it hard to get to the sidewalk right now. They do have automatic doors though!! So cool!
I’ve been here twice now and have had great experiences both times. Their oat milk latte is fantastic. And they have a variety of muffins and cookies and pastries and scones that come from a fantastic local bakery called Tart. Staff is very nice and there are lots of individual tables where you can sit and chat or sit and do work. And places to plug in your computer or phone are plentiful. Nice big communal table in the middle of the space is really nice to see and very welcoming.
