Stagger Coffee
3069 W 8th St, Los Angeles, CA
Crema's Take
“Stagger Coffee has built a genuine reputation as a matcha destination in LA, with their double matcha earning particular praise for its luxuriously thick consistency and clean flavor that rivals dedicated matcha specialists. The shop moves impressively fast despite weekend crowds that can snake out the door, making it an ideal spot for quality matcha on the go, though be prepared to customize your sweetness level since their signature drinks can run sweet for some palates. It's the kind of place that generates real buzz in local coffee conversations—people genuinely debate whether it ranks among LA's best matcha, and that kind of devoted following speaks volumes.”

Just a got myself a regular matcha latte without the cream foam for my on the go drink to Vegas! Super good! I think it’s as good as Maru’s matcha personally! Service was efficiently fast but only cause I was there at 9am. Good place to chill and study tho! Wish I had the time to sit and relax but that’ll mean I’ll need to come back for another visit! Parking is free cause shop is in a plaza but limited so plan accordingly :)
I had high hopes for this place, but it fell short of my expectations. Matcha latte was excessively sweet, with an overwhelming amount of seasoning and a high sugar content. The staff was cynical and impatient, making it difficult to engage in conversation. The parking lot was also a major issue. It was so small that it was a hassle to find a spot. The espresso coffee lacked balance and aroma. The seats inside were extremely uncomfortable for studying or working. The tables were low enough to bow over, except for a few in the middle. The chairs were also uncomfortable to sit in due to their narrow backrests. It seemed as if the chairs were intentionally designed to prevent people from sitting for very long periods.
Came in at a lucky time because the line wasn’t too long. 5 min after I came in, the line was out the door. But thankfully the line seems to move fast. Got the double matcha with almond milk. If I were to come back, I’d get it with oat because the almond milk was thin and other reviews seem to say that their double matcha was a thicker consistency, which I would prefer. The matcha was very good quality but it was so crowded that there was barely anywhere to sit and the tables were all gross. Definitely not a place to sit and get work done since it’s crowded, doesn’t seem to have good outlets and the tables are really low. Lots of ppl stayed to talk though. Staff didn’t seem all that friendly, but maybe it’s just cause they are constantly swamped. The place was packed at the time that it closed (on sundays they close at 5). Thankfully I walked, because the only parking seemed to be valet and was limited.
Stagger’s name gets brought up an awful lot in discussions regarding the best matcha in LA, so of course I had to come and try for myself. For a Saturday afternoon, I expected the crowd to be much worse (it was still bad though, don’t get me wrong). The plaza is disproportionately small in comparison to the crowds that Stagger Coffee draws. Luckily, valet parking is available for a small price. The line was sticking out the door, but conveniently, there were umbrellas provided for guests standing in the hot sun. In total, we probably waited about 15-20 minutes to reach the front counter and order. One of my friends ordered the donut latte, which is dine-in only. So we HAD to find a place to sit. Miraculously, a table for three freed up as soon as we finished paying. Other guests were not as fortunate. Several people were confined to the back alley, standing against the wall or sitting on the concrete to enjoy their drinks (which honestly was also a vibe). The double matcha was good, and I liked the cream top. But I felt like the vanilla was a bit overpowering. I thought that their coffee was better than their matcha. I really liked the London Black, which was coffee with Earl Grey tea. The donut latte was good too. It’s espresso sized and is served in a cute little ceramic demitasse cup, which is why you have to dine-in to order it. They dust the cream top in cacao powder and make a little hole in the middle so it resembles a donut. Sweet, creamy, a little chocolatey, and coffee - just like a donut dunked in a cup of Joe. Even considering my critiques, I still really enjoyed my matcha. I don’t think Stagger has the best matcha in LA, but their matcha is still delicious and worth a try. If I come back, I would want to get the London Black, but I think it might be a seasonal thing.
REC: Double Matcha VERY delicious and thick matcha but very busy on a weekend. If you like matcha thick I recommend it and if you like a thinner consistency, and is a slow drinker, then it is perfect after the ice melts a little. I got the double matcha, and I can confidently say it is one of the BEST matchas I’ve ever had. One downside is that parking is limited (expected) and there is a line out the door, but that moved very fast. They have umbrellas for people who are waiting in the heat and LA sun. There is seating in and out (inside has tables and outside doesn’t) but once again limited due to how popular this place is. Vibes are nice and service was fine. They even have free stickers you can get at the counter. Drink was $7.50 not too bad for ktown. reviewed 10/11/2025
