Crushcakes and Cafe
5392 Hollister Ave, Isla Vista, CA
Crema's Take
“Crushcakes and Cafe brings cozy Pacific Northwest vibes to Isla Vista with its rustic house aesthetic that feels like a refuge from the California sun, earning loyal praise for its warm hospitality and fresh pastries. While their breakfast execution can be inconsistent—some diners rave about the food quality while others note missteps with eggs and chilaquiles—the staff's genuine kindness (regulars specifically mention servers like Lily, Ash, and Ethan) and laptop-friendly atmosphere make it a dependable spot for lingering over coffee and cupcakes with friends.”

Probably the worst chilaquiles I’ve had in my life. I asked for fried eggs over medium and they made them scrambled. I’ve never had chilaquiles with corn either and this came with. Also those green leaves I don’t even know what they are. I also paid for a chocolate croissant and they forgot it so when I asked for it they were sold out so they gave me a scone instead. Service was regular definitely not great. Total spent was $32 for which I would have expected better.
I love the vibe of this place. Perhaps it’s because it’s a rainy gloomy day, but the rustic house look and feel to the place is reminiscent of the Pacific Northwest to me. Great little coffee spot
We showed up, right as they were closing, and yet, they still served us with big smiles on their faces. They were sweet, just like the cupcakes. Shout out to Lily, Ash, and Ethan for being so helpful, we had originally planned on just getting a few pastries, but left with a bag full for our friends. Meow.
I want to start by saying that I respect Crushcakes as a business and I love their food. Today though, I went in with my significant other on our lunch break and I got the KC’s Sunnyside. He got the pesto panini sandwich. My issue lies in the fact that by the time that I got back to my job to enjoy my food (10 minutes later) my potatoes were very obviously undercooked and grainy. We left the restaurant around 1:05 after waiting 20 minutes for to-go food, which I understand is normal everywhere. When my significant other went in to get a remake because I had to get back to work, they said that they couldn’t remake it because it was “an hour ago.” There was offering from my partner to show that the food was barely touched and still no effort was made to fix the issue aside from offering a side of potatoes to my already cold food. I figure calling ahead would help but it did not at all. I’m now upset because it’s 45 minutes after I wanted to eat, my vegetables are cold so the quality of my meal is tampered, and I felt absolutely disregarded as a customer. If you’ve never had a KC’s, the potatoes are the base of the meal with arugula, kale, goat cheese and egg on top. Vegetables and egg don’t microwave well and I’m more upset with the fact that $32 dollars total were spent just to get met with what seems to be a half-attempted “solution.” It’s now 2:20 and the rest of my food is cold. Update at 2:32- I got to open my new potato side and they are also still very undercooked in the middle ☹️
What a lovely surprise in Goleta. Wish I'd bought some merch. Good was excellent and fresh. My tortilla chips weren't made there but they served the salty ones, so they don't lose points. Service was great. My Mom had the turkey burger and salad. She likes her coffee hot, so when asked they heated it up for her immediately. Young servers were chatty with each other, but prompt in service. I got the brekkie tacos. No extra charge for guac. It was just there! Win. I had the chai matcha hot. Yum.
