Mama Said Hand Pies Cafe - Ulysses
1710 Trumansburg Rd, Ithaca, NY
Crema's Take
“Tucked into Ithaca, this cozy café is built around gloriously flaky hand pies that shine in both sweet and savory varieties—think maple spice lattes paired with sausage and egg pies, or Japanese curry alongside potato and cheddar. The warm, family-run atmosphere and thoughtful touches like board games and ample seating make it the kind of place where you'll want to linger over breakfast and leave with an armful of pastries for later. Every detail feels intentional here, from the quality of the pastry to the genuine friendliness of the people behind the counter.”

I went to Mama Said for a quick breakfast. I had a sausage and egg handpie, as well as Japanese curry pie. Both were delicious and freshly made. I also had a maple spice latte, which was so comforting on the wet day. Cozy inside with a fireplace and sofa
We felt so lucky to come across this gem in the middle of nowhere! Incredible savory flavors, delicious flaky pastry, and unbelievable sweet treats as well. The pastries are a little pricey for their size at $6 each, but very worth it - we each got 3. There's a ton of seating, at tables and in armchairs by a roaring fireplace, as well as board games. Such a delight to have lunch here on a winter afternoon!
A cozy place run by friendly people! I had the potato & cheddar hand pie for breakfast: comforting flavors and super flaky pastry. Also got three of the sweet hand pies and they’re all delicious. Will definitely go back!
Errrmmmgod. Let's talk about those hand pies. The selection: so many. You have sweet and savory. Crispy crust, generous filling. Choose breakfast, lunch, and dessert ... Or how about all three?! These are hand pie containers of joy that you can dine in with or optimally designed for on the go consumption! I basically double fisted the sausage gravy and the cherry pie one sitting. Will not disappoint!
Delicious sweet and savory pies and delicious coffee! Also, there is plenty of seating, some board games and toys for kids, free wifi and a clean toilet. Such a gem!
