Crema's Take
“Hatsuzakura is a beloved North Park gem that draws crowds for its inviting, serene atmosphere and thoughtfully crafted drinks that blend traditional Japanese beverages with creative specialty options. While it's small and operates on a first-come, first-served basis (arriving early is key), the attentive service and quality of their drinks, pastries, and light fare make it worth the wait for those seeking an authentic, leisurely experience perfect for meeting friends or marking a special occasion.”

Imo not worth the hype at all. Wayyy too overhyped. I literally think people just hype it up bc it’s Japanese. Everything about this place is just very mid. There are way better places for way cheaper. And ESPECIALLY don’t come all the way down here from LA to try, there are way better places in LA. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad, it’s just so incredibly mid. Curry 5/10 Maybe the most unflavorful curry I’ve ever had, it feels like they put zero salt in it to bring out the flavor so it’s just very lackluster. Some more salt or spice would make this better but as it stands it has a lot to improve upon and it’s disappointing that this is their signature. Soup 6/10 Unflavorful, very light, almost like drinking water. Needs more salt or pepper in it or something. Salad 9/10 Surprised me as someone who doesn’t usually like salads, the dressing is very good and really the only thing in my meal I actually enjoyed. Daifuku 4/10 The flavor of the red bean outbalances the strawberry and mochi, all you taste is the low quality red bean. If you’ve ever been to Japan you’ll probably be very disappointed in this place. Really the only decent thing was the service, the waiters were very attentive and nice but you will be disappointed in the food. I honestly recommend the Thai place next door way more for atmosphere and food.
Found this little gem on social media, and I must say the service was outstanding. Everyone was incredibly attentive, and the food arrived hot and fresh. We sat on the patio, I appreciate they have large baskets next to your table to place your belongings in. The chicken karaage was exceptional (we didn’t get a photo, but it looks just like what others have posted). The batter was perfectly light and crisp. I ordered the Hayashi Omurice with brisket fried rice, and the demi-glace sauce added a rich, flavorful touch. My partner went with the curry, which was solid and straightforward. The only minor drawback was that the brisket portions in both dishes were a bit sparse compared to what we were hoping for. That said, the overall experience more than made up for it.
Really incredible atmosphere that is bright and inviting while also being soft and soothing. The service was impeccable with an incredibly kind and helpful wait staff, and the food and drinks were very well plated and very tasty. I highly recommend checking this one out!
This little Japanese restaurant has few seating. Highly recommend to come here right when they open. Or else you will wait for 45min to get seated. As they have good food, drinks and desserts. It's a family owned restaurant.
Hatsuzakura was recommended by a friend for a Japanese comfort food birthday dinner. This cute restaurant was an excellent choice, it’s a small , first come first serve , North Park gem. I ordered the curry and it was so tasty! This dish included rice already so the full set choice came with soup, salad, and a dessert. We had the oven baked macaroni for the table and it was so delish! Our waitress was very kind , attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure I had a enjoyable birthday experience.
