Crema's Take

Tucked into Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood, this Julius Meinl outpost is a serious espresso destination where specialty drinks shine and the kitchen backs up the coffee with generous, well-priced food that goes beyond typical cafe fare—think protein bowls and full breakfast menus alongside pastries. The vibe strikes that perfect balance between welcoming work-from-home spot and genuine gathering place, with attentive staff and a cool, comfortable atmosphere that keeps regulars coming back, though coffee availability can occasionally be hit-or-miss depending on the time of day.

I have been here before and got breakfast. It was yummy. This time I got the chicken protein bowl! Big portion - enough for delicious leftovers, and the price was so perfect. Atmosphere and waitstaff is lovely and efficient. Be sure to visit!

I met a friend here for coffee, but the experience left me feeling a bit unwelcome. They didn’t have any brewed coffee available, and the server said it was too late in the day to make more. She suggested an Americano instead, and when I asked if it would cost more, she agreed to charge the brewed coffee price—which I appreciated. However, when I tried to pay with a $20 bill that had a small tear, she refused it, saying the manager would be upset with her. Luckily, I had smaller bills to cover it and leave a small tip, but the whole interaction made me feel like I was an inconvenience rather than a valued customer.

I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in this unassuming restaurant. It is cool and comfortable. Our server was top notch. Very helpful and enthusiastic. The food and drink menu offer a bevy of options; however we were underwhelmed with the food. The appetizers were lukewarm and didn’t quite meet expectations. Our soup course, though hot, was on the bland side. I will be going back for another meal. It may have just been a bad day and everything else seemed right. It is worth another chance.

Best coffee in Edgewater, it’s great spot to plug in your computer and work/study all day. They have a great food selection to dine in and to go as well. I can’t have any coffee anywhere else as good as this coffee imported from Austria!
