Front Room Tavern
6101 Hillcrest Ave, Dallas, TX
Crema's Take
“Front Room Tavern is a mid-century modern stunner with floor-to-ceiling glass that sets an undeniably stylish backdrop for drinks and bites in Dallas. The bartenders craft thoughtful cocktails (their old fashioned earns particular praise), and the space genuinely shines as a destination for meeting friends or catching a pre-show meal before heading to nearby McFarlin Auditorium. Just know that the kitchen's execution can be inconsistent, so come for the vibe, the cocktails, and the architectural charm rather than expecting kitchen excellence.”

Fun spot for food and drinks in a mid century style glass everywhere hotel.
BEST PART WAS THE VALET. I went to the lumen this evening for dinner with some colleagues to celebrate a birthday. I got to the lumen at 5:00 PM and walked into the restaurant which had two tables seated. I waited for 10 minutes at the host stand until I was told to take a seat anywhere. I waited for 15 minutes before I got up to ask for a menu. The Lumen has a happy hour but the prices were not honored. After no service for 30 minutes I asked to order and the food was way below par. I thought this would be a good place to get dinner. PATRONS BEWARE!!! And watch out for bugs at the bar.
The bar and bartender are the only things keeping this at at 2 star rating. The bartender was good and made a very good old fashioned. The kitchen was a joke. The fries were burnt. The burger and chicken sandwich were okay at best. Everything from the kitchen was over priced. It was 8pm on Friday night, less than 10 people in the restaurant and our food came out slowly and, as I said previously, the fries were burnt to a crisp. I am extremely unhappy with the price of this meal. We paid $125, before tip, for an unsatisfactory meal and 4 total cocktails. They need to do better.
Decent food but NOT worth the wait. I visited Front Room Tavern on a Saturday night before seeing a show at the McFarlin Auditorium. There we’re maybe 5 tables full. When we arrived, we were told that we could take a seat where ever we wanted (we requested outside) and that the waitress would follow us out… 38 minutes later and we had yet to see our waitress, get waters, or even menus. We ended up moving in to the bar to receive service as the bartender and the bus boy ignored our waves (we made eye contact and yet they never came over). Even with sitting at the bar, each food item we ordered took a minimum of 40 minutes to arrive (and seemed to have been left under a heat lamp) and our drinks took 20+ minutes. At one point, we ended up re-requesting a drink and the bartender did not remember that we had ordered, much less what the drink was. We ordered 3 different food items. They were good, but pretty average. An hour and 45 minutes for a dinner, solely based on service? I will not be returning.
Heard this place is good for both brunch and for dinner so this review is for dinner and specifically during restaurant week. So my thought is restaurant week is still the same food and no smaller portions. With that in mind, the entree at this place was a bit too small for me. If I didn't come during restaurant week when you don't get a full 3 course menu I would think this place was outrageously over priced for the portion you get. Therefore my recommendation is you come during restaurant or when your not super hungry. Overall place is good. I love that they source their ingredients from local farms, including the meat (44 farms same location that Knife gets it from). I give this place a 4 star because like I said during restaurant week this place is good. The appetizer was good (BBQ Chilli pork ribs are divine) so tender. The cheese board is really good. I love it when it comes with a honeycomb. The entree was small unfortunately but tasted good overall. I got the 44 farms top sirloin. The desert was really good (panna cotta). Also loved that our waitress really went out of her way to make sure my sister had a great experience and gave us the sorbet dessert as well as my sister wasn't a fan of the panna cotta so she gave it back. To me the waitress was really what raised it a star. I would put 2 stars without tasting the brunch. Again I haven't been here for brunch so maybe their potions for brunch are good that the one entree will be big enough to fill you.
