Simurgh Bakery & Cafe
4125 San Pablo Ave, Emeryville, CA
Crema's Take
“Simurgh Bakery & Cafe brings authentic Turkish and Balkan flavors to Emeryville with pastries and traditional dishes that taste like they were pulled straight from Istanbul—think impossibly light borek, flavorful beef brisket sandwiches, and creamy rice pudding that exceed expectations. The warm, hospitable staff and all-day breakfast menu make it the kind of gem where you'll want to linger with friends over coffee and try everything, especially if you're chasing that genuine taste of Turkey without the plane ticket.”

LOVE. I'm not Turkish, but I lived in Turkey for a year and the food at Simurgh is closer to the food I had in Turkey than any other Turkish restaurant I've been to in the US. The food is flavorful and fresh, the staff are friendly and efficient, the menu is varied, and the portions are huge. The vibe is casual which I actually like; it's nice to go to a more low-key restaurant that still has great food. There's indoor and outdoor seating. Some of the great food I've had here includes the grilled meats (DELICIOUS), amazing fresh bread, menemen, baklava, and Turkish coffee. I also love their homemade ayran, although that's an acquired taste.
Without hesitation, this is one of the best places to eat in town. You truly need to try everything on the menu. The Turkish/Balkan-style food is absolutely delicious. The staff is extremely friendly and polite. I also want to emphasize how clean the place is, from the open kitchen to the seating area.
This restaurant is such a gem! Our beef brisket patty sandwich and the Turkish sampler platter were both very delicious with decent portions. We also had a rice pudding to go, and it was beyond expectation. Need to go back and try more of the sweets!
Such a delight. Specialize Turkish baked goods, dishes. Have an all day breakfast menus as well. We met up with friends here. This is the first time we visited, so everything is tempting. Limited seatings. Every one works here is so helpful, patiently explains everything. I can see why this is a local fa write. Food portions are large. They also have preboxed food you can purchase and take with you.
Fresh and delicious Turkish food! I got Borek and I never had Borek that is light and fluffy like this before. The accompanied salad goes very well. I asked a staff what I should get for a lighter meal and she got the right stuff for me. When it comes to the dessert, the blakava here is thick, rich, and still have the right crunchy texture from the outside. Plus it is big! Looking at the menu, I can see that this place is authentic and of course other dishes I saw around neighboring tables look all new and interesting to me. Definitely a place I want to come back and try other dishes!
