Fat Doughnut
50 Malcolm X Blvd, Brooklyn, NY
Crema's Take
“Fat Doughnut is a beloved Williamsburg institution where pillowy, generously-sized donuts—especially their legendary maple glaze—are the main event, though their recently upgraded kitchen now also turns out phenomenal chicken sandwiches and an incredible chocolate chip cookie. The shop has a genuine mom-and-pop warmth to it, with an owner who genuinely cares and a calm, laid-back vibe that makes it equally suited for a quick grab or lingering over coffee, earning devoted fans who've been returning for years.”

glaze itself was ok, but the donut is so thick and bready. more like a sweet bagel, but probably makes for good sandwhich
2025 update: Been coming here for 2 years and have eaten an estimated 40 maple glazed donuts, it's one of the best donuts in NY. They modernized the shop and have an incredible choco chip cookie now. The coffee is their only weakness--I drink mine black and want more complexity. -- What to get--coconut donut and an iced coffee for ~$7. How it turned out: small batched, old fashioned donuts with a good chew. Generous size and very satisfying. I do feel a little guilty eating these, wish they were a bit smaller so I could try a variety.
It’s a small calm, mom and pop kind of vibe to it. Very chill laid-back. The food was amazing. The chicken sandwich phenomenal, and the coleslaw was crispy. Just how I like it. The donuts dumb was good. I started eating before I even got to take a picture. lol .. FAT DOUGHNUT I’m coming back lol .
Large, fluffy doughnuts. PILLOWS OF SUGARY GOODNESS. The maple glaze is to die for. They are pretty greasy, and delicious. Super satisfying to eat. I've only ever had doughnuts from here. Definitely worth it. It's a good thing i don't live in the neighborhood.
Owner is such a sweetheart. I had an oatmilk latte and my daughter had an oatmilk hot chocolate on the first visit with a cinnamon roll and maple glazed donut. Second visit had a walnut glazed twisty thing, oreo cookie donut and original glazed (all pictured). Each donut had a nice crispy outside and a soft inside. They are pretty big too so ideal for sharing OR having your own sweet tooth indulged. Will definitely visit again next time I'm in Bedstuy!
