Shy Bird
390 Third St, Cambridge, MA
Crema's Take
“This Kendall Square spot opens late and doubles as both a quick caffeine stop and a leisurely dinner destination, with an equally impressive lineup of traditional espresso drinks and creative specialty beverages. Beyond coffee, Shy Bird delivers genuinely satisfying food that goes beyond typical café fare—think herb-roasted chicken with crisp sides, inventive vegetarian options, and standout details like rosemary fries that keep people coming back. The warm, family-friendly atmosphere makes it feel less like a grab-and-go chain and more like a neighborhood gathering place where you're equally welcome to rush in for a cappuccino or settle in for hours with friends.”

If you’re in Kendall and want something fast, fresh, and actually satisfying, Shy Bird is a layup. I grabbed the chicken Caesar wrap and it was loaded. Real chunks of juicy roasted chicken, crisp romaine, plenty of parm, and just enough dressing to keep it flavorful without turning into a soggy mess. The wrap was tight, hefty, and didn’t fall apart halfway through which already puts it ahead of most spots in the area. The space itself fits Kendall Square perfectly. Clean, modern, lots of natural light, good for a quick solo lunch or an easy group meet-up. Service is fast but not rushed. It’s not trying to be fancy. It’s just really solid chicken done right.
The herb roasted chicken was decent and juicy and also priced fairly. The smashed burger was cooked a bit too well and lacked a bit of flavor. Overall not bad
Good food with great atmosphere and at the great location, the squash dish was nice. The rosemary fries were amazing. Even the artichoke dip was good. Peri Peri Margarita was amazing.
Visited some friends in Boston who recommended Shy Bird, and it did not disappoint! The half roast chicken hit the spot, with a nice crisp side salad. We also got "SB Dunks" which were just chicken bites served with all their dips. My favourites were the "Spicy Bird Bath" and honey mustard dips.
It seems like most of the reviews on here are for lunch, but this must be the most underrated dinner spot in Kendall square. I was absolutely blown away by the fresh, flavorful vegetarian options! The savoy cabbage, hot honey ricotta, and delicata squash were all out of this world good and should not be skipped! My husband also enjoyed the piri piri chicken and the portion was huge. Shoutout to our waitress Juniper for the great food recs! We will be back.
