Teddy's Café and Sweet Shop
130 Roosevelt Way, New Orleans, LA
Crema's Take
“Housed within the elegant Roosevelt Hotel, Teddy's offers a beautifully appointed setting for traditional coffee drinks and pastries in the heart of New Orleans, though reviews suggest the execution doesn't quite match its stunning surroundings. The staff shines with genuine warmth and attentiveness even at early morning hours, making it a pleasant spot for a leisurely sit if you're staying nearby or exploring the French Quarter. That said, the inconsistent food quality and premium pricing mean you're largely paying for the experience and ambiance rather than exceptional coffee or baked goods.”

While it wasn't a bad spot to use one's dining credits as a result of staying with the hotel, it is overpriced and the food quality overall was inconsistent. My partner and I had breakfast here for two days in a row, and even if we got similar items, it wasn't clear what we could rely on in terms of tastiness. Some items that were tasty the first day wasn't the case the next day anymore. Overall everything just tasted pretty standard, from the lox and bagels to the croissants and to the beyond burger. Personally I thought the pastries were the highlight because the cafe had a variety of them and they all looked relatively freshly made. The beyond burger was pretty good and had basic ingredients to make it work. The beignets were also okay and had a good amount of powdered sugar on them. I also got a peppermint mocha that was a seasonal item on that day. Unfortunately it didn't taste good. Neither the chocolate nor the peppermint flavor was present and it tasted like weak hot chocolate. It's also worth noting that on the first day, despite ordering just pastries and the mocha, without real food (they were ordered via room service), I still had to wait 35 to 40 minutes to get my food for some reason, even if the items were right there. It wasn't a problem for the second day, though, even if there were around the same amount of customers.
Might be worth stopping in just to look at the restaurant. It is a beautiful restaurant located of course inside a gorgeous 5 Star Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts however, the food completely relaxed. I’ve had better meals at Denny’s restaurants and I had here. My expectations were compromised in my bowl of cold dry oatmeal arrived. Would not bother eating breakfast here. However the Domenica also located inside The Roosevelt Hotel has fabulous food with a much higher caliber in service and quality.
DON’T waste your money!!! Oatmeal was very dry and BARELY warm. The beignets were very doughy and tasted NOTHING like a real beignet.🙄 The 3 very small beignets came with a side of chocolate syrup 😒 (tasted EXACTLY like Hershey’s syrup). My cafe au lait was sooo watered down that I couldn’t even taste the coffee. The staff has an automatic machine where they push a button to “make” your coffee drinks. $30 for a bowl of oatmeal, 3 very small strange tasting beignets, and a large extremely watered down cafe au lait. We won’t be going back. We do NOT recommend this restaurant. Side note: the restaurant itself is beautiful.
Today’s café was gorgeous and the service was incredible. Even at 7 AM, The staff was happy, helpful, and ready to go. Even the staff outside the building were friendly and helpful, calling out to us from across the street to ask if we were lost. The coffee and breakfast tasted great, but it was a little expensive so watch your wallet. I’d definitely go again, I might just order a little less for myself.
A friend of mine comes to New Orleans several times a year and told me I needed to go to The Roosevelt. When I come for Christmas I will definitely be back because I bet it is absolutely stunning! The lobby is beautiful and you can feel the history in this place! I went for a cup of coffee in the cafe and also got a quick pastry/ bite to eat. There were plenty of different types of seating and TV's for leisure. Seating was comfortable as I sat in a cushioned chair/couch. But there are also Cafe tables and plenty of other seating arrangements to accommodate pretty much any group. There were lots of things to choose from at the counter and I'm assuming a lot of their hotel guests grab things to eat and drink here. That's probably the majority of their patrons. But I'm super glad I stopped in! I will be by when I am in town once again!
