Crema's Take

Tucked into a charming Victorian home in Rochester, The Mad Hatter combines whimsical Alice in Wonderland theming with genuinely impressive brunch execution—their Eggs Benedict sampler and duck-laden croques are standouts that justify the weekend wait. Beyond the Instagram-worthy atmosphere, this is a spot where attention to detail shines through in both the kitchen and service, making it equally suited for a leisurely solo coffee session with their excellent tea selection or a family gathering over bacon pancakes and rich tomato soup.

My friend and I went here for brunch and the food was fantastic. My photo of the duck croque madame doesn’t show you how much duck bacon they stuffed inside; the fattiness of the bacon is cut by the mornay sauce. My friend got the flavored coffee with their version of the garbage plate and he got free refills on the coffee. I would suggest coming near opening time because when we left around 11 AM, there was a decent gathering in the waiting room.

Quaint, it’s an old home turned into a restaurant and cafe. Reasonably priced. Food very tasty & my waitress Jennifer was kind and attentive. Asked to be sat somewhere warm but hostess sat me next to the door. 🤷🏽

Went here for lunch with family. An adorable Alice in Wonderland themed eatery. Nicely decorated and great service. All 4 of us were happy with our brunch meals. The bacon pancakes and spicy breakfast burrito were great! The bakery up front is full of delights to take home. We bought some delicious cookies and cakes and all were creative and tasty! Not a very big place, so it may be tough to get a table during busier times, but worth the wait. They also do high tea!! Fun AND delicious!

A great place for brunch! The eggs Benedict sampler is must-try! Each Benedict is unique and flavorful. The sauces on each were terrific. The tea selection is fantastic. And the tomato soup was rich and tasty. The service was pretty good and the decor was nice. Would recommend!

My friend and I decided to try this restaurant one Saturday morning while visiting. The wait was 45 minutes with very little seating so they text you when table was ready. The food was very plain and nothing special. It tastes like plain breakfast. The breakfast is better at Cracker Barrel. They have overpriced baked goods that didn’t look fresh. They could also make renovations because it’s a very old home and feels clammy during winter especially when raining. Just need to invest in upkeep. You can go buy lower expectations because I didn’t enjoy the food and was not impressed BUT the service was excellent!
