Crema's Take
“I appreciate the detailed information, but I need to let you know that Ice in San Jose appears to be an ice skating rink, not a coffee shop. Since I'm Crema, a specialty coffee discovery app, I'm designed to write summaries specifically about coffee shops and their unique characteristics. If you have a coffee shop you'd like me to write about instead, I'd be happy to help! Just share the shop name, location, rating, and reviews, and I'll craft a warm, specific summary.”

I have been skating since I was 5 and I'm now 15. Of these 10 years, I have skated at Sharks San Jose for 5. I started here during Covid, and they had some absurd regulations, but I understood due to concerns of contracting the virus. However, despite condoning this rink back then, I am now appalled by their current "service". They are now expecting not only public session skaters but also freestyle session skaters to wear these ugly stickers confirming your reservation. I can understand why they would want this, since I have personally seen hundreds of skaters get by without actually registering or paying. HOWEVER, today, from 4:50pm to 5:30pm, the front desk was completely empty when I came in for my 5pm freestyle session. The sign said that they would be back at 5:20pm. I had a lesson at 5pm, how was I expected to wait 20 minutes and waste 10 dollars of session time and 60 dollars in lesson time? Low and behold, 25 minutes into my class and the session, an old white guy (I think name starts with A) comes in screaming at all of us CHILDREN (most are like aged 10 and below since it's right after school) and is enraged that we didn't get our stickers when we couldn't since no one was there. I saw a little 7 year old start CRYING because of this terrible man. I had to walk out of my lesson all the way to the front desk that was 5 miles away as a herd of parents and other little children went running that way too. When I arrived at the front desk, I heard parents complaining as to why their children's lesson and practice time was being interrupted when they didn't receive their stickers due to the rink's terrible scheduling. The worker (a girl this time) replied that the rink was understaffed and that it wasn't their problem but rather OURS. WHAT DO YOU WANT SOME CHILDREN TO DO? WORK FOR YOUR RINK? FIND SOME WORKERS OFF THE STREET? I have condoned this rink's terrible management for WAY TOO LONG, and I am finally putting my OBJECTIVE opinions out there. This has now happened MULTIPLE times, and I do not understand why it is the customer's responsibility to makeup for the business' faults. Please take caution in supporting this business. Service is terrible. Ice barely gets zamboni-d these days. Come here once with your friends for a fun hangout. Don't come for real practice.
Lots of free parking. Open very late. Would be nice if they Zamboni’ed midway through the 2hr public skate, the ice was quite worn down by the end. Not a critique on the facility but a critique on the skating experience: 99% of the folks were polite and aware of skating etiquette, but there are some figure skaters who act like they own the rink. They are in their full performance costume with videographers skating around trying to show off with no regard for the flow of traffic and people just trying to enjoy public skate
My kids love this place for ice skating. We've been bringing them here off an on for a decade or so. Pretty central in the South Bay area. Fair to good free parking, although sometimes can get quite busy. Cost for skating for about 90 mins is $17 plus $8 for skate rental last time we visited. There is food and a nice bar. The bar has a good selection of beer and the food is typical restaurant pricing (chicken tenders and fries about $18). The areas around the bar has a good view of all the multiple rinks and you may end up seeing the Sharks training. Would definitely recommend.
This was our first time at Sharks Ice, and we came for a birthday party. It turned out to be such a fun experience. The facility is great and they had a nice setup for parties with plenty of room for kids and parents to hang out comfortably. I hadn’t been on ice skates in 25+ years, so I was a little unsure how that was going to go. The bucket skating made a huge difference. It helped me get comfortable again without feeling ridiculous, and it was perfect for helping my little one feel safe and confident on the ice for the first time. My kid had a blast, which is always the best sign. Overall, it was a great first visit and I’m pretty sure we’ll be back again soon.
Cool place for ice skating whether you are a beginner or experienced skater. Not a bad deal for $15 /2 hours of skating time. My daughter takes private lessons and thoroughly enjoys ice skating with her friends. In the heart of downtown San jose this place is just awesome. Parking is a pain but try to come in early before the start of a session.
