East Rock Coffee
49 Cottage St, New Haven, CT
Crema's Take
“East Rock Coffee opens early and keeps its espresso machine meticulously maintained, pulling shots that pair beautifully with their house-made syrups like lavender and creative sandwiches featuring homemade sourdough and pesto that locals can't stop thinking about. The space feels genuinely welcoming for lingering over a cup or catching up with friends, though the team could use some gentler feedback practices. It's the kind of neighborhood spot where you trust the coffee will be excellent, the pastries fresh, and the small-batch touches—from their signature drinks to their carefully sourced beans—worth the visit.”

I find several of the responses to lower ratings on here distasteful and unprofessional, so I have to wonder about the higher up’s maturity and ability to take criticism. That being said, the counter staff are great, serve yummy drinks, gluten free bread is a solid choice, and the homemade pesto is delicious.
Food was good with nice pesto Bagel and Smashed Avocado in toast. Coffee very good, expresso and latte both good. Plus really good cup of English Breakfast tea.
Why are iced drinks always melted when they are served? I think the baristas add ice in the end instead of at the beginning so the drink is always melted, warm, and watery. :(
The house-made Lavender syrup (in an iced latte) was amazing, and the “Paisley’s Pesto” sandwich on house-made sourdough bread was so good I’m daydreaming about it still hours later! The owner, Heather, encompasses all good things, & the shop is located in a beautiful area of town….perfection all around! 10/10 recommend!
This a great place to grab a coffee and a bite. Coffee is all high qaulity, has a wonderful smell and tastes just right. It feels like a coffee machine is well taken care of and cleaned regulary, so no ash aftertaste. Pastry is fresh, I would even rate local croissants 3.5/5 by an absolute grade and 4.9/5 for US market. Atrisan sandwiches looks good and taste the same. And I especially recommend this place for a rainy day, feels very cost here. Only two negative aspects for me are the size and prohibition against sitting here with a loptop.
