The Cakery is my favorite cafe I have been to in San Diego. It has everything I’d like from a cafe! There are Matcha is my current hyper fixation, a lot of cafes use Paru for their Matcha, but the cake is Matcha tastes really rich, but not too heavy. I can really taste the matcha and love it when it’s not too sweet. They have a lot of options for drinks, and pairs really well with their sweets. I love the passionfruit cheesecake and double vanilla Madeline. There are always seats and it’s never too loud when visiting, but you could also have a conversation with your friends there. All it gets a bit warm in there because there’s a lot of sun that comes in. Food and Drinks: - 🍵: 10/10 get it semi-sweet - earl grey financier: 7.5/10 I think I’d like a stronger flavor - double vanilla Madeline: 8/10 very light but flavorful Seating: enough availability with a long table and a couple smaller tables. Seats are a bit uncomfy after awhile but not bad. Staff: they’re always super sweet and make the drinks really well! Parking: lots of parking on the lot and street parking available
I appreciate this place is new but I was not impressed based on their prices and product. Asked for decaf which they said was available and then later said it wasn’t. We would’ve gone somewhere else had we known from the start. The lemon drizzle Madeline was tasty but dry. Cheesecake was meh. Overall not that great. Interior needs a lot of attention. $25 for two coffees and two baked goods.
Super cute spot! In an unassuming area, but once inside, you’re met with the beautiful smell of cakes, coffee, and tea! Everything we got was amazing! Highly recommend stopping by and giving them a visit! Good vibes. Nice service. Great food and drinks!
The Cakery on Trade Street in San Diego is an absolute dream for dessert and coffee lovers. Every item I tried was executed with care, balance, and incredible quality. The chocolate and vanilla cheesecakes were smooth, creamy, and perfectly rich without being overwhelming. The Madeleines were moist and delicate, especially the chocolate roche, along with the salted caramel and Ferrero Rocher cakes, which were indulgent, creamy and beautifully done. The canelé deserves special praise, flawless in texture and taste, with that perfect contrast of a crispy exterior and soft, custardy interior. It’s clear this is a place that truly understands technique and balance. Their coffee beans are just as impressive as their pastries, delicious, flavorful, and perfectly smooth with just the right amount of strength. The quality shines through even in mixed latte drinks. I ordered the iced black sesame hojicha with a shot of espresso, and the barista was incredibly thoughtful, serving the espresso on the side so I could experience both flavors individually. As a black sesame lover, I appreciated every detail, even the topping was spot on. Beyond the food and drinks, the service was impeccable. The staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. The ambiance is clean, classy, and minimalist, making it the perfect spot for dates, casual meetups, or a relaxed coffee break. The Cakery is the kind of place you want to linger in, refined, comforting, and memorable. I’ll absolutely be back.
This trendy café offers amazing coffee, beautiful desserts, and an unbeatable vibe! The sandwiches are truly delicious, and you absolutely must try the matcha—it’s superb! Without a doubt, this is one of the best cafés in San Diego. I truly love everything about this place, especially the sandwiches, and I’m so proud of my good friend who runs it. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a cozy spot with fantastic treats!
