Ugo Cafe Redondo Beach

Review – February 25th, 2026 (around 5:30 PM) This was my third time visiting Ugo Café, and unfortunately, once again I did not feel welcomed by the staff. I stopped by this Wednesday around 5:30 PM to have a dessert. The place itself is pleasant and beautifully decorated, and the desserts are generally tasty. However, the customer service makes you want to leave as quickly as possible. While looking at the display case, I noticed a puff pastry dessert that I know as “mille-feuille.” There are no names or prices listed in the display, which makes it difficult for customers to identify the items. I would suggest completing the menu displayed on the wall to include all available desserts for better transparency and clarity. When I asked the employee if the pastry was a mille-feuille, she corrected me by saying it was a “Napoleon.” At first, I didn’t understand what she meant, and she had to repeat it in an impatient tone. The dessert displayed at the front looked fresh, as puff pastry layered desserts usually should. However, I was served the first slice from the plate behind the display — which I could not see — and unfortunately, it was not fresh. The pastry was soggy and dry at the same time, clearly not freshly made, and visibly different from the piece showcased in front. It seemed like leftovers from the previous day or earlier. I chose not to ask for a replacement because I understand how challenging it is to run a food establishment. The dessert was not spoiled — the cream was still good — but it lacked freshness and quality. I did not feel comfortable asking the staff to change it. It is truly a shame. This café, with its lovely atmosphere and Italian-inspired touch, has great potential in a city that lacks quality pâtisseries. Unfortunately, the service and overall customer experience leave much to be desired.

Their coffee is really good!! I got an iced vanilla latte + a Nutella gelato. Both were great. Nice addition to redondo beach!

My new favorite bakery! The gelato tasted so fresh and amazing, highly recommend the cheesecake flavor, gelato made fresh in store. It was a little pricey but the quality, service and ambiance here made me want to come back again and again! Love it SO much

One of the best gelatos in so Cal and this is coming from someone who was just in Rome this summer. The ambiance of the cafe is charming as well and the staff is very friendly. Don't listen to those who posted negative reviews and try it for yourself

The gelato is excellent. But it was disappointing that the servings were so poorly distributed. It isn’t cheap and I’m happy to pay for quality, but we got 3 small ice creams and mine wasn’t even half full. Maybe three bites altogether. One of them was appropriate and one was a little on the small side but not as bad as mine. For the price, it should be more generous / attention to detail.
