Midnight Oil

Global Village Plz, Rochester, NY

Crema's Take

Midnight Oil is a reliably good neighborhood spot in Rochester where the coffee keeps regulars coming back (don't miss their punch card deal for every tenth cup), and the pastries—particularly their donuts, bagels, and cinnamon rolls—are worth the visit. The recent layout changes have shifted its vibe from an intimate cozy nook to something more open, though it still works well for casual meetings or quick weekday grab-and-gos. Fair warning: the food quality has been inconsistent lately, and their ice preparation could use some attention, but devoted customers seem to overlook these quirks for the welcoming atmosphere.

Used to be my favorite breakfast on campus but the quality of the food has really plummeted over the past year or two. Also the layout changes recently make it feel a lot less like a cozy nook and more like a waiting area for mobile orders.

My experience at midnight oil was quite unpleasant. Whoever is in charge of picking the ice to go in the drinks should be fired. The ice in the coffee is made up of tiny little pebbles that melt and completely water down your drink in just a few minutes. Other than that the coffee is pretty bitter. The employees are hit or miss some were polite and friendly while others were rude and completely incompetent. In the future I’m going to bring my bring my business to Beanz or a different rit cafe.

Got the breakfast burrito from there and it was bland. the cinnamon roll was decent and the muffins are alright too. Not a coffee person so I can't give an opinion on that. Nice little place otherwise if you need coffee from the looks of it

Great place to meet a friend or colleague. They are not a Starbucks, but they brew Starbucks coffee. Excellent donuts and bagels too. Haven't tried the breakfast sandwiches but they seem to be quite popular. Convenient to the west side of the RIT campus.

Fantastic coffee shop. I get my caffeine fix here almost every day. For those regulars, ask for their punch cards to get your 10th coffee free :] Midnight Oil is a really nice place for your 1:1 meetings away from the bustle.
