Red Silo Coffee Roasters
6590 Holman St Apt 207, Broomfield, CO
Crema's Take
“Tucked away in Broomfield with a surprisingly spacious two-level layout, Red Silo is a genuine community gathering spot where you'll find people working, chatting, and lingering over carefully pulled espresso shots and pour overs. The roastery has earned its loyal following for consistency and hospitality, though some visitors find their espresso-forward approach hits differently depending on the day—it's worth trying their medium roasts and pairing them with their solid pastry selection, especially if you can snag one of their coveted tables before the inevitable midday rush.”

We really needed Red Silo this morning after being up all night with a sick kiddo and our espresso machine deciding not to work, but it fell flat yet again. My husband and I have been coming here for years, but less and less, as the consistency is just not there. We have never been blown by Red Silo, but loved having a local spot so close (short drive or long walk). But I would say we’ve had 1 good latte in the last 8 or so lattes we’ve had here (some close to undrinkable). Sometimes the balance is off, sometimes the texture/consistency is off, and sometimes it is just watery. We find ourselves preferring to drive 15 mins to Golden or Tennyson for lattes rather than driving the 2 mins to Red Silo. We even prefer our rushed, at home lattes. Even the sweetness of the farmhouse fog, which I love, ranges so much. Sometimes you barely taste the lavender, sometimes it’s perfect, but sometimes once I drink half of it, I go home and make more tea to add to it because there is way too much syrup. I hate to be leaving a bad review for a local spot, but I am really tired of driving 15 minutes to treat myself to a good latte. I can’t remember ever having issues with the service, but I’m not going back just because they have good service.
Was glad to find a table as it was pretty crowded when I showed up. Clean place with lots of people working and chatting - ideal coffee shop vibe. Giving 3 stars because I did not like the coffee… very disappointed in the flavor. I saw they had several types of beans listed but I was not offered a choice with my Americano. Also I think they gave me almond milk instead of oat milk. Perhaps the staff is new but I was disappointed in my experience as I had heard great things about this place. Also, I was disappointed that they didn’t offer a reusable mug option - all drinks are served in single use containers. This is clearly a place that people stay and enjoy their food and drinks, so I would expect a more eco friendly option.
The layout is great, there’s tons of seating upstairs! But it is super popular so it fills up fast! And they have a few tables outside too. I was disappointed there was no longer a meatless breakfast burrito option. I was so excited for a burrito so I was majorly bummed. I’d give the chorizo a 5/10 but the gluten free lemon poppyseed muffin was an absolute 10/10. It was the best gluten free pastry I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a ton so it’s really not an exaggeration. I did make the mistake of getting the diesel coffee on a warm day because the oil makes it impossible to be iced. I’d give it a 6/10, it sadly wasn’t my favorite. I liked the first couple sips but as I continued to drink it, it didn’t grow on me. The keto coffee though, I’d give a 9/10. I thought it was delicious as is, but for my mom, it was a little bitter so she added a little more sugar at home and it was perfect!
It took me a bit of time to find it, but it’s worth it. If your GPS says that you are there, but you are not, just keep searching for a bit. The place itself is gorgeous. It looks small coming in but the upstairs is huge. The coffee is of good quality and they bake everything in-house. I scored the last carrot buckwheat cake and it was delicious. Awesome service, some parking, great vibe!
I'm going back to Red Silo for more.. I had a medium roast and a peach scone. The scone was really good. The coffee was just black coffee. Nothing too exciting but that's the way I like it. The rest of my group really liked their iced cream. Red Silo has a lot of interesting flavors that I'm looking forward to trying. The shop has a fun space. Indoor seating is upstairs in a loft area. While there's not much of a view it's still comfortable.
