Khadi's cuisine
421 W Cross St, Ypsilanti, MI
Crema's Take
“Tucked in Ypsilanti, this West African kitchen serves up authentic flavors like maffe stew, jollof rice, and standout fatayas that keep regulars coming back for more. The owner Khadi creates a genuinely relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where families linger over traditional drinks and generous portions, making it as much about connection as it is about the food. Whether you're discovering plantains for the first time or becoming a devoted fan of their grilled chicken, there's a warmth here that goes beyond the kitchen.”

I’ve ordered the spaghetti bowl from Khadi’s Cuisine many times before, so I know exactly what a normal portion looks like. What I received this time was honestly unacceptable. It was very obvious that one spaghetti bowl had been split into two and served as separate orders. The portions were extremely small compared to what they normally give. This felt very dishonest. When customers pay for two bowls, they should receive two full portions — not one order divided up. It honestly felt like they were trying to cut corners at the customer’s expense. Because I’ve ordered this dish multiple times, the difference was very clear. If this is how they’re going to start serving people, I definitely won’t be coming back. I would recommend others double-check their portions before leaving because this experience was extremely disappointing.
Update 11/2025: had to come back to write an update. I tried the grilled chicken this time and wow the seasoning and sauce on the chicken was very good. I will be coming back to try the peanut butter stew next time! Red sniper and plantains were delicious! Will be back to try other things on the menu.
The food and atmosphere was great! I got the fried plantains and grilled chicken with jallof rice. I will be be back!
Delicious food and great customer service! Everyone I came with loved their meals and the portions are generous. The fatayas were a stand out! Many of the dishes and drinks were new to me, and I appreciated how patient the person who took our order was and answered all our questions. I look forward to coming back!
The food was delicious. My kids love the meat pies and fries. Maffe stew was everything. The service was great, Khadi is so kind. Was a relaxing atmosphere. We will be back again!
