First Slice Pie Cafe
5357 N Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL
Crema's Take
“This beloved Chicago spot is a pie lover's paradise where the pastries are genuinely exceptional—their Key Lime and Coffee Toffee varieties inspire devoted fans to keep returning even after moving away. The espresso machine turns out reliable coffee that pairs perfectly with a slice, and the surprisingly robust sandwich and lunch menu means you can settle in for a leisurely afternoon or grab something quick on your way out. It's the kind of warm, unpretentious neighborhood cafe where the quality of what's on your plate speaks louder than the decor, making it equally suited for a solo coffee moment or a casual meeting with a friend.”

Cutest spot for an afternoon slice of pie and a cup of coffee. Nice that they have an espresso machine and a nice variety of delicious pies. They have a pretty extensive lunch menu as well but didn’t get to try- will definitely be back. Limited seating in the back especially on weekends but a great atmosphere. Lots of pies and other items that you can take to go as well.
I love this place. The sandwiches are outstanding and are served with chips and a side salad that’s always crisp and fresh. There are delicious frozen meals you can purchase to bring home - you should definitely take home a chicken pot pie if you want something savory. Then there’s the pie which is so scrumptious. I’m partial to key lime but they also have an excellent strawberry cheesecake and tons of other options. My friend tried the brownie and a piece of apple pie and said both were exceptional. I only took one star down for the atmosphere because there’s not a ton of places to sit and a couple of the chairs are old school chairs (the kind that try to correct your posture). But overall, an exceptional experience every time I go back!
I love First Slice!!! Been to all their locations over the years and keep coming back even though I no longer live here. Key Lime is my go-to - better than any I've tried elsewhere - but all their pies are amazing, and so is their well-rounded menu of food. Today I tried their red velvet (forgot that I typically don't like red velvet, must've been sold on the "chocolate ganash in the center") and it was soooo good. Also got one of their frozen chicken pot pies to go, and that made a fantastic easy meal.
This place is perfect! We ordered a slice of the Michigan sour cherry pie and the coffee toffee pie, and both were absolutely delicious. We even grabbed a seasonal one to go. Their iced chai and coffee were also great. Highly recommend it!
I met a friend here and we split a slice of coffee toffee pie. It had a solid coffee flavor and bits of pecan that were pretty satisfying. The service was just fine nothing fancy but not pushy. The place is laid back and easy to be in. We left happy and full. I would come back again when I want a casual afternoon treat.
