12/28/25 I drove up on a rainy afternoon to check out what Kalamazoo has to offer compared to the chains of the area. I ordered a shot of espresso and a pour over of the Guji. The espresso was actually quite pleasant! It was very vibrant and juicy. Most of the shops I go to have this very toasty/burnt espresso taste and I was surprised at how well executed it was. The pour over was a little to underwhelming, I feel like it didn't have enough time for extraction. You really have to search for flavor profiles. I don't know what their ratio but I'll ask someday Overall I really enjoyed the shop, the fact that you can CHOOSE the choice of beans for a pour over gives me a chance to come back over and over, to see new selections or see what they're capable of. Personal opinions; I liked the look of the shop, everything seems to look run down, but not super dirty. No parking is a downside, but having it on this side of the neighborhood is what I like, I can actually walk somewhere and not have to cross into downtown. I also purchased a bag of beans from there, I'm quite excited to see how it comes out at home. Highly recommend if you live in the neighborhood.
Good, but espresso tastes a bit bitter. They assured me that it’s not overoasted but on the lighter side and using highly-rated green beans, but it still tastes smoky or something. They think I may have had bad shots in my cortados and offered a credit. So I increased my rating until I try it again. Otherwise, the preparation seems descent, but can vary depending on the barista. The place is a cozy old house with different sections - nice to go with friends.
Really cool spot with a good selection of beans! I tried the caramel corn latte and give it 2 thumbs up, highly recommend this place
Always love coming to the Frank St location! The coffee special can usually be made as a matcha, which is how I ended up with an amazing iced baklava matcha latte (that I went back for a second one of that week!) If you can catch any of the events going on they are well worth going to. The space is beautiful to hang out in with board games and a photo booth, and staff is always polite. Highly recommend coming in when you have the chance.
I was visiting family in the area and needed a place to work for a couple of hours. The coffee is excellent and I love the location in the repurposed factory. I ended up buying another drink and a bag of coffee to take back home. They were two of the best lattes I've ever had, and I am a bit of a coffee snob. Can't wait to come back the next time I am in the Zoo!
