Verve Coffee Roasters
1540 Pacific Ave, Santa Cruz, CA
Crema's Take
“Verve is a beloved Santa Cruz institution where baristas nail both creative signatures (their iced spiced cherry matcha latte is genuinely special) and precision espresso drinks, with a warm enough vibe that they'll remember your name. The location itself is a draw—nestled in a vibrant neighborhood next to a great bookstore—making it an ideal spot to linger over a pour over or cold brew, though the counter-ordering setup and occasional service inconsistencies suggest it's in a transitional moment. Despite some regulars noting the quality has wavered, the cafe still delivers that rare combination of serious coffee craft and genuine hospitality that keeps people coming back.”

Me and my wife went in as first time customers and first visitors to Santa Cruz for her birthday. We decided to stop here for a quick coffee before our NHS tour but didn't even get greeted at the door but the girl that came in behind us was greeted immediately. When we asked about if they serve a Vanilla latte the response was "not really"? What. She did say they have almond milk but what kind of response is not really and we decided to pass it up and when leaving no one said a word, have a good day or anything. Just frustrated us a first time customers, didn't feel welcomed.
wait the iced spiced cherry matcha latte was fire. very green and smooth and flavorful. the guy also said my name perfectly which was nice. highly recommend.
Great vibe and great coffee. In a fun area with a great little bookstore next door.
Food and coffee was nice. Had to wait pretty long for the bathroom though. It still gets me that I have to order at the counter and the machine asks me for a tip, but that is a different problem.
I love this place, but it seems to be going down. The quality is not what it used to be. The girl taking the orders was asking what kind of milk did I want with breve cappuccino. I had to repeat several times that it was for here. I asked for a breve cappuccino and a latte, but still got two cappuccinos (one was breve, at least). I asked for one with a single shot and another double shot, I could not tell which cup had more coffee. The coffee itself is ok, but just ok. This is sad. Verve used to be exceptional, especially thus location. I think they have been on the way down since opening the Palo Alto location. Monetizing the success, apparently.
