Crema's Take

Groundwork Coffee is an espresso-focused spot that draws laptop warriors with its thoughtful design and convenient wall outlets, though it seems to shine brightest as a workspace rather than a destination for specialty drinks. While their signature creative offerings like the Beehive Matcha Latte show promise, reviews suggest inconsistency with their matcha and espresso execution—some customers report bitter, poorly-maintained shots and clumpy matcha that doesn't match the premium pricing. If you're looking for a stylish, early-opening LA cafe to settle in for a few hours, it delivers on atmosphere; just manage expectations on the coffee quality itself.

I’m actually really shocked how terrible their coffee is. It’s not even a little bit off. No it’s just terrible. Burnt , bitter and it tastes like their machines haven’t been cleaned since Covid was in style

What always surprises me about some operators is how they underestimate the financial impact of design. Investing in the look and feel of a space directly translates into revenue. Just walk into Great White—its incredible interior is the reason it’s packed, five-times over.

I ordered the Strawberry Matcha only to see that it was priced at $9… I thought that it was overpriced for what I got. It came in a size medium looking cup but I would have expected a larger cup given the price point!! It was delicious, but I wouldn’t spend that much for a matcha again. The vibes for getting work done was good and the interior is nice.

If you’re coming here for matcha… don’t bother. The powder isn’t mixed in so you taste it in clumps and the color is HEINOUS. Worse than starbucks and it cost me $9… Biggest mistake

I had a great experience working from this cafe. I decided to try their beehive matcha latte, which was a pleasant surprise. The cafe had convenient outlets along the wall, making it convenient for me and other fellow remote workers. It was a productive and enjoyable atmosphere.
