Crema's Take

Purple Kow brings creative drinks and surprisingly solid food to San Francisco with a menu that spans from traditional boba tea (their grass jelly is genuinely praised) to unexpected standouts like tender chicken and crispy garlic fries. The generous pours and customization options like oat milk swaps make it worth a visit, though be prepared that service can be hit-or-miss depending on who's behind the counter. There's parking and indoor seating, making it a solid spot for a leisurely hang rather than just a quick grab-and-go.

I ordered my usual honey milk tea with boba and grass jelly and they gave me something else instead of grass jelly. Server is unfriendly and the Asian guy who took the order cares nothing but his tips. Instead of grass jelly which dark green, I got tgis clear translation jelly thing. Very disappointing. I didn’t noticed that they gave me the wrong order until after I tasted it when got home which is on the other side of GG park by the zoo. My receipt said boba and GRASS JELLY which was what I asked for. Not going to come back here anytime soon. Wish I could take back the tips!

Disappointing Service - Good Drinks [tl;dr the cashier ignored me on her phone multiple times, witheld my drinks, then implied it was my fault & the staff who made the drinks. If you don't care about service, I'd give 4 stars for the D series of drinks] I'm a long time supporter of Purple Kow - grew up in the Sunset, was in high school when it first opened. I have a lot of positive memories. I don't like complaining because I know it's hard to run a small business. But I experienced inappropriate staff behavior this weekend, specifically by the staff member working the register on Sunday afternoon, November 16th, around 3-4 PM. - She replied rudely when I asked genuine questions about options D2 and D4 before ordering. - I brushed it off, thinking maybe it was a misunderstanding. - She rudely told me to take my ticket number while I was busy putting my credit card away, and after tipping 18%. - Again, I thought it was an honest misunderstanding, because I didn't hear her properly. However, she seemed pretty miffed. - She then proceeded to call all other drinks before and after my order. - She was positive to other customers during this time, clearly shouting their numbers, and saying "thank you" as they left. - I kept waiting, as I didn't want to rush the staff making the drinks behind the counter - I've worked customer service and know it can be annoying. - However, when I finally asked about our drinks after not receiving them after everyone else was served, she ignored me while texting on her phone, even after I tried to get her attention very discretely. - It was then that I realized her rude behavior seemed very intentional towards me. - Finally after a very long moment, she looked up, gave me a side eye, and replied "um yeah 😒, your drinks have been ready" and proceeded to pull them out from under the counter - as if it was my fault for not getting these drinks. - I couldn't help but think she was purposely withholding our drinks - my friend and I were sitting right in front of the register in plain view. She never called our number. She called all the other customers' numbers. - When I asked why our number wasn't called, she was quick to blame it on the staff who makes drinks, saying they're the ones who put it under the counter. - When I asked her if I did anything to rub her wrong - I'm willing to take ownership for what I could have done - she was quick to say "no, you're fine, it's ok." It is what it is. But to be honest, it wasn't cool. Didn't feel great. I will not be going to Purple Kow going forward, and will be informing friends that Purple Kow service has decreased substantially over the years. (This isn't the first time I've had a disappointing service experience at Purple Kow, but it's the first time it was bad enough for me to communicate.) I hope the company is able to support staff in their development and growth. I offer this feedback in good faith, and that I hope that they're able to generate a steady stream of happy customers going forward.

Must say the chicken here is really tender and delicious, I was very surprised. I don't rate chicken wings very highly but the nuggets here are really delicious. Soft, juicy and flavorful. The price here is affordable but the shop is a bit small. Will come back.

Their drinks are amazing. Boba is USUALLY pretty good and chewy. Definitely recommend their grass jelly toppings. Generally recommend their ice milk drinks. Garlic fries were amazing! Their fries taste fresh. Fried perfectly and crisp. Perfectly seasoned, plus they use fresh chopped garlic. Their dipping sauce also works well with the garlic fries. The tobango wings was definitely the best wings I have ever tasted. Way better than Gordon Ramsay’s chicken wings, or all the other dry wings that wingstop has on the menu. The sauce is sweet, savory, and acidic.. Their fried chicken wings are crispy, and incredibly juicy and tender. Their sauce is definitely something special!

Tried the toffee QQ half sweet with oat milk. Everything was good. The cups are huge and don’t fit in a cup holder. Might be hard for little hands to hang on to. Seating available inside. Parking could be challenging. We waited 5 minutes, there was no one in-front of us. Straws look like compostable, hoping it doesn’t get soggy before I finish. I like to take my time and enjoy it all afternoon.
