Our Daily Bread Bakery & Bistro

Crema's Take
“Our Daily Bread is a beloved gathering spot in Blacksburg where locals linger over made-to-order pastries and custom cakes that clearly demand attention and skill—their filled pound cakes are particularly celebrated for celebrations. While recent visits have been inconsistent with the service temperature and execution, the bakery shines brightest for its leisurely brunch experience, where freshly made breakfast sandwiches and flaky croissants paired with thoughtful coffee create the kind of comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere perfect for unhurried hours with friends.”

We’ve been coming here many times for our girls’ get-togethers with friends, but unfortunately this visit was really disappointing. The hot water wasn’t actually hot, my mug was chipped in two places, and worst of all, the apple pudding we ordered was completely undercooked. When we told the manager, they insisted that’s just how the pudding is supposed to be, but it was genuinely raw—even though the apple on top looked burnt. Very disappointed with both the quality and the way our concern was handled. When customers don’t feel valued, there’s no reason to come back. We won’t be returning.
Last night, we went there to celebrate our friend’s birthday. We ordered hot tea and apple pudding. The tea was not hot at all. The apple pudding was undercooked, heavy, and tasted very bad without any sugar. When we complained to the manager, she said, “It is what it is,” and did not even offer a refund. We couldn’t eat the pudding and had to order something else instead. The quality of both the food and the service was disappointing, and I will not be going there again. If the manager is reading this, it’s too late to offer a refund now — that should have been done at the time.
TLDR: great, delicious place for brunch, dinner, baked goods, made-to-order filled pound cakes, and specialty cakes I placed an order a couple weeks ago for a 6” filled pound cake for a birthday. It was a strawberry pound cake filled with strawberry preserves, and had American buttercream icing. They ask if you would like anything written on the cake and in what color, so I had “Happy Birthday” written (btw the candles in the picture were purchased at Kroger; however, they do sell birthday candles at the register). Delicious cake. I usually like chocolate/not a fan of fruity cakes, but the flavor was surprisingly good - not too sweet, not artificial-tasting. I’d order another pound cake from them again. You do have to eat it within a few days though, otherwise the cake will become hard. In the past, I’ve also ordered specialty cakes off of their menu - all have been delicious. My partner and I also often come here for Saturday or Sunday brunch, once in a blue moon for dinner. Delicious brunch food and drink options, and dinner is very nice - the dinner menu is small with the selection and atmosphere feeling like fine dining. Everything I’ve ordered from their dinner menu so far has been delicious, especially the lamb. Highly recommend dinners for special occasions. It gets busy for brunch and it can be hard to find a table indoors, so either come early before they open, or wait an hour or so so that the first wave of guests are finished eating. Their baked good in the case are also always fresh and delicious. I often get the ham & cheese croissant, chocolate croissant, and sugar cookies. They often have seasonal goods, and sometimes free samples.
The staff were nice! It’s a self service spot. You order up front get your own coffee own water utensils etc then they bring the food out. The food was good and came out fresh just a wee bit pricey for what it is to be honest.
Very nice bakery and bistro! Quality, quality, quality! I ordered the Breakfast Sandwich with scrambled eggs and bacon. Eggs were super fluffy and bacon was delicious. I chose the croissant as my bread option and it was very good as well. The Belgian Waffle was top notch with fresh blueberries and strawberries and house made whipped cream. Cookies and apple turnover were excellent. 10/10. Definitely will be back.
