Dae Newyork

385 Smith St, Brooklyn, NY

Crema's Take

Dae is a minimalist Brooklyn café with a mellow, gallery-like atmosphere that feels equally suited for lingering over coffee and pastries or catching up with friends over creative drinks. The kitchen specializes in beautifully plated brunch dishes like their signature Mayak egg, though portions run delicate rather than generous, and the carefully curated menu leans into specialty beverages like hojicha and house-made matcha drinks. It's the kind of place where good music and considered design matter as much as what's in your cup—ideal for those who appreciate thoughtful details and a quiet morning, though fair warning that acoustics can get lively during peak hours.

What a wonderful place to stumble into on a cold evening! Dae is warm and inviting, like a friend’s cozy living room. Good music that allowed us to talk. The cocktails are delicious and while we didn’t get food because this was a pre-dinner drink stop, the aromas coming from the kitchen were making us drool. And the happy hour alone is worth a visit! We will be back! Thank you Celina for being an excellent hostess and bartender!

Super quiet, only 1 person at the counter . Order purple sweet potato matcha but we need to go back and ask for more purple sweet potato since we can’t taste any . Hojicha was okay .

Absolutely gorgeous cafe with a nice mellow vibe and great coffee and cake, all served beautifully in a minimalist design. I really wanted to give 5 stars however the service is horrible and the lady working here is not friendly and also some tables are left dirty. Too bad because it really takes away from this beautiful place.

Cute spot with great food. Went here for dinner and I do think the vibe lends itself better for breakfast/ lunch; it’s quite minimal, but can get quite loud bc of the acoustics. Favorites were the Leche de Tigre with scallop and black sesame; melted in your mouth so good! And the prawns, which had some heat to the greens. The charred cabbage and fries were also great. Finished the dinner with the hōjicha martini, which was like a dessert. Affogato was also perfect, espresso was nice and strong.

We just had brunch. The Mayak egg dish was cute and tasty, but small for the price. The tomato toast was just okay and also on the small side. The menu is very limited. They don't have black tea for people who just want strong black tea with their brunch. The service staff were pleasant enough, but there it's pretty much service including figuring out why one dish came and the other dish we ordered did not until we asked where it was. It's not as if the staff were run off their feet since there were only two other tables the entire time we were there. Both of whom already had their food. They have a few rules. No computers and no photos or videos of their very sparsely decorated and empty at high brunch hour space. This may reflect how they may not be appealing to neighborhood. We would not go back.
