Lambert's Café
1800 W State Hwy J, Ozark, MO
Crema's Take
“This legendary Ozark institution is as much about the rollicking, packed-house atmosphere as it is about the food—expect walls plastered with license plates and photos from across America, complimentary passes of hot okra, and a genuine warmth from staff that makes the inevitable wait feel like part of the charm. The generous breakfast spreads and comfort food draw devoted regulars and road-trippers alike, though diners should come prepared for crowds and the lively chaos that comes with a beloved community gathering spot.”

Lambert's Cafe is worth the 2+ hour drive from Jackson County, MO. There are pictures and license plates from all over on the walls and once you reach the host stand, you're greeted by extreme kind workers! Servers or cooks come out to give out different sides that can also be ordered from the menu. The best part about this restaurant is the environment feeling so welcoming and of course the rolls. If you can't catch a tennis ball, be careful!😂
Food was good, the experience was better, the wait wasn't worth it in my opinion, unless you just want to say you went there. Things we liked, the complimentary okra was unexpected and was really good. The rolls of course were amazing and the apple butter and sorghum made them even better if that was possible. We had the chicken fried round steak and are pretty sure it was a frozen steak not fresh, could be wrong, but if we are that kinda let's you know what we thought about it. My son had the ribs and he really liked them. Daughter had the chicken and dumplings and she loved em. All in all, for the experience it was great, some of the food left something to be desired.
My husband and I decided to do a little weekend getaway and went to Springfield Missouri. When multiple people found out that we are going to Springfield, they suggested that we try out Lambert's Cafe because it was one of the funnest and most delicious places to eat. My husband and I decided to go there and we did have to wait for about an hour which was completely fine with us. We didn't have anything else to do that evening. So once we got seated we had our server that came to our table right away. Brought us our drinks, took our order and then started bringing out the sides. The atmosphere there is really cool. It's laid back. They bring you your drinks and big mugs. All of your little sides are served in little bowls that they bring out on a platter and I think the coolest thing about it is the fact that if you want to roll they will throw it to you so they come out with a big cart. They pick up the rolls and they start tossing them to you if you want. I can tell you those rolls were warm. They were fresh and they were the best tasting rolls I have had in a long time. They definitely outdo Texas Roadhouse rolls. The area where the restaurant is located is very easy to find and they also have a little shop that you can go and pick up souvenirs and things like that.
The Food and service are wonderful! The Atmosphere is a lot! So much going on! A lot of wait time. I know this is what people expect, but I wasn't. Sunday early afternoon and we had to wait 70 minutes. They do a great job at organizing it and this is nothing on Lambert's, but it was a one time experience for me. The crowds, the wait time, they shoved 6 adults in a booth which left little room for us to eat comfortably. However, the staff was friendly, the food was delicious and it was overall a good 1 time experience for me. If you like upbeat and crowds you'll love this place. To be fair, I've never been on a weekday. Im sure its not quite as hectic. I do love that they have a gift shop to walk around in, with an intercom system, to hear your name while you are waiting. I would say, everyone needs to try this place at least one time! You might love it!!
This was a wild experience. First of all the place is packed, locals definitely live this place because the line was out the door. Regardless, the wait wasn't too bad, about 30 minutes which e killed in their gift shop. Anyways the staff is working their butts prf but being the coolest people while doing it. They straight up throw hot rolls to you when you raise your hand in the air which is such a fun experience. They also come around to keep losing your plates with free food like potatoes, okra, and other things. The food itself is great, and honestly I couldn't be fuller. This is a place to bring large groups, you won't be disappointed.
