Crema's Take

Tucked near Washington Square Park, this beloved Italian pastry shop is a time-honored neighborhood institution where locals and visitors alike line up for authentic treats that justify the hype—think moist, delicate cakes, buttery croissants, and showstopping princess cakes that are almost too beautiful to eat. Whether you're grabbing a quick espresso and cornetto or lingering over coffee with family, the genuine Italian charm and consistently excellent pastries make it feel less like a casual cafe and more like a cherished tradition worth returning to again and again.

Victoria Pastry is the real deal. I stopped in before walking through Washington Square Park and left with a box full of the most beautiful Italian pastries. The princess cake was absolutely stunning — layers of raspberry jam, vanilla custard, and that gorgeous green marzipan. The cannoli was perfectly crisp and creamy. This place has serious old-school San Francisco soul. Don’t skip it.

A classic Italian charm and consistently satisfying treats. It’s a great spot to slow down for a sweet break in the neighborhood. The Italian pastries and sweets are the highlight. it’s an easy recommendation if you’re in North Beach and craving good Italian pastries, sweets, coffee, and a quality croissant.

I walked up here from my cousin’s for mocha and coffee and fresh croissants. They were delicious. I really wanted to also sample some of the other beautiful pastries but didn’t have time. This is a regular stop when I visit.

The best thing about the cakes is the cake body (it's moist and soft and not too sweet), so that's nice, but other parts of the cake definitely needs work. I ordered a slice of st honore cake for myself and a whole princess cake for a party. The st honore cake is very nice, not too sweet and the bottom pastry is crispy and adds texture to the cake. But the choux pastry on top is soft and colorless, feels like grocery store pastry. The princess cake has the same nice cake body and a nice balance of the raspberry jam and almond. But the outer layer was too sweet.

First time to try this pastry shop and it definitely won't be the last! We got: * wedding cookies - cute small cookies! We 'only' got a dozen and should have ordered 2 dozen * almond torte - good, reminds me of the one from Dianda's which I haven't tried for some time so can't say which one is better * Luigi bar - good but tasted somewhat similar to the almond torte for me Can't wait to go back and try their other pastries!
