Crema's Take
“Gray Squirrel Coffee in Carrboro strikes that rare balance between serious espresso craft and genuinely welcoming community space, with reviewers consistently praising its upbeat vibe, thoughtful music volume, and spacious layout that works equally well for solo laptop sessions or family outings. Their espresso-focused approach pairs nicely with carefully selected pour overs and pastries, while a refreshingly straightforward no-tip pricing model keeps things transparent and honest. The mural-adorned walls and outdoor seating area give this spot a distinctly local character that feels like the kind of place neighbors keep coming back to.”

Fantastic location for any coffee/coffe-based drinks and some limited teas. Sweets are enjoyable and the atmosphere is upbeat and personal.
Today I went to GSC for the first time with my wife and daughter and had a pleasant surprise. A welcoming and spacious environment, pleasant music at a good volume, quiet, and most importantly, good service. The red-bearded guy was very friendly and attentive, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I will return and I recommend it.
I've never been to this place before, but it was super busy when I went. They have a no-tip policy, so you pay the price they set for their products. There is an outdoor seating area, but I saw most customers are there to work or study.
We stumbled Gray Squirrel after having lunch on the area and I’m glad we did. We knew it was our type of place when we saw the mural on the wall. When we walked in we loved the vibe. We ordered the Coconut Salted Caramel Latter with Expresso Foam and OMG! Love at first taste. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable that we will definitely come back for a visit when we are in the area. Oh and we bought doggie biscuits (house made) like all of their pastries. Up next on our visit…their handcrafted sodas. We would definitely recommend.
I had heard great things about Grey Squirrel and was exited to try it. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the coffee, may have just been a bad shot on the espresso. My cortado was slightly under extracted and the milk was steamed too hot and burnt. Could have just been an 'off-day'. I'll be back to try it again. Why was everything served in paper cups? Even dine-in orders?? Seems very un-ecofriendly. I prefer real mugs. Good atmosphere. Plenty of seating. Large bathrooms with enough room to bring a stroller in. Very clean! Good wifi for 'work-from-home'. The bread was fantastic! Plenty of parking.
