Atelier December
1605 Cortelyou Rd, Brooklyn, NY
Crema's Take
“Atelier December is a late-opening Brooklyn brunch destination where the real magic happens at the table—think perfectly cooked egg benedicts, smoked salmon toasties, and buckwheat crepes that keep regulars coming back enough to fill their photo roll. The space strikes that coveted balance between carefully curated (gorgeous interiors, thoughtful presentation) and genuinely welcoming, making it equally suited for a solo coffee moment or lingering with friends over their inventive drinks like strawberry matcha with cold foam. It's the kind of neighborhood spot that earns its loyal following through consistent execution on both the food and the feeling.”

I honestly do not usually write reviews but this place really deserves one. And if you see my photos, you will probably understand how often I come here lol. This is definitely my go to place for pasta, coffee, and the overall experience. The food quality is always amazing and their pasta is so fresh and full of flavor every time. I have to mention the saffron rose latte because I literally love it and alsooo the STEAK PASTA🩵 The service is also one of the best parts. Everyone is so welcoming, kind, and attentive, and the whole place has a warm and cozy vibe. This is definitely my go to spot and I always recommend it to my friends. Everyone I have suggested this place to and who tried it ended up loving it. I really felt like more people should know about this place, especially if you are looking for a good halal cafe. Highly recommend. One of my favorite spots for sure.
Wonderful breakfasts. Highly recommend toastie with salmon, egg Benedict (on photo), as well as toastie with smoked turkey, and buckwheat crepes with berries. Talking about drinks, I like their green Japanese Detox tea.
The omelette, the people’s omelette was absolutely delicious. Flavors were well balanced, and the salad was right and fresh. The egg was perfectly cooked as well. We also got the lemon zest pancake, which was a bit sweet for our taste and reminded me of a Madeleine. I would compare the flavor profile to the Chez ma Tante pancakes, but fluffier and cakier. The day that we came, it was a little bit smoky inside because of the ventilation so if that’s something that you’re sensitive to, might be a consideration to have if you’re planning to dine inside.
I really wanted to like Atelier December. Truly. The name is gorgeous, the interior looks like it’s trying its best… but the food and experience? Absolutely not. I ordered the French omelet, which sounded lovely until it arrived. It was bland, the eggs were runny, and the only edible part of the plate was the potatoes. So yes, I essentially paid $18 for potatoes. Gourmet, I guess? But honestly, that wasn’t even the biggest disappointment. We showed up early specifically for the baked goods, and the croissant tasted like it hadn’t met an oven in at least two days. That’s a shame for a place that sells itself on pastries. My husband ordered eggs Benedict, and even that fell flat. The English muffin was thin and flat—basically the opposite of what it’s supposed to be. And then there’s the ventilation. This place had bad airflow under the previous owners, and somehow, with the new name and refreshed decor, they managed to keep that part exactly the same. Impressive consistency, at least. So yes, Atelier December got a new name and a little interior glow-up, but unfortunately, none of the actual quality improved.
So I came here for a little bit of Saturday brunch. I had ordered a strawberry Matcha with cold foam. It was really sweet. That’s how I like it and the steak with pasta I had chosen the pink sauce and it was really good. The steak was cooked how I liked it medium rare and I also have the pistachio pancakes with some fruit on the side because none of the pancakes came with fruit on top of it, but that wasn’t really a problem for me. I came on a warm day in October so I didn’t expect it to be very chilly, but although I like the scenery It seemed as if the humidity had attracted a fly problem Which was taking me off a little bit mainly because I didn’t want flies sitting on my food around me so I was forced to cover my food with napkins. Food was a 10 out of 10 I definitely recommend maybe if they keep the door shut or get rid of the indoor plants it would be a different environment in terms of the flies And the service was really nice. The waiters were very attentive. I definitely come back here to try other things on their menus!
