Crema's Take

Bakery 1908 is a bright and welcoming Asian-style bakery that specializes in both sweet and savory buns with remarkably balanced flavors, from their signature Oreo and blueberry cinnamon varieties to unique savory options like chicken curry. Beyond the coffee, you'll find yourself drawn in by their rotating selection of distinctive Asian pastries and desserts, including a standout Japanese cheesecake that keeps locals coming back. It's the kind of place that feels like a gem in Temple Terrace—casual enough for a quick morning grab with family, yet special enough that people travel across town (or even from out of state) specifically to experience it.

This is a nice cute Asian style bakery. We tried the Oreo Bun, Blueberry Cinnamon Bun, and the Chicken Curry Bun. Both the sweet and savory had the flavor just right. The cream in the sweet buns was perfect, almost like a honey butter with cream cheese that made the buns the best I have had since the Philippine Bake Shop in Jacksonville.

Unique Asian desserts. I enjoyed everything that I tried. I definitely was on the search for a Japanese cheesecake, so I'm glad that I was able to find it there. Texture wise it was definitely different than I thought it would be. It's more like a thick pancake, but still airy.

Clean and organized. When we got there it was in the evening around 7pm. Most of the items were sold out, didn’t look that fresh and one of the workers was sweeping and getting ready to close. I would have thought at closing, most or all of the items should be discounted at 50% off. But anyway we bought a few things. Just to say, it’s not like the bigger store in Orlando we went to. Where the Orlando store had hot foods you can order and more bakery items. Next time we’re in the Tampa area, we’ll check it out again around breakfast time.

Sweet Buns is a gem in Tampa. The bakery is bright, welcoming, and filled with beautiful options in both the sweet and savory sections. I tried the chicken and ham sweet bun and it was delicious. Savory, cheesy, and full of flavor in every bite. I also had the blueberry cinnamon roll and it was delectable. Soft and light, just the right amount of sweetness, and packed with flavor. I paired everything with a black coffee that was smooth and bold, the perfect balance for the pastries. The self-serve setup makes it fun to explore and the selection is impressive with everything from stuffed buns to pastries and desserts. If you are in the area and craving fresh baked goods with great coffee, Sweet Buns is worth a visit.

I have been wanting to experience this shop for a long time! I live far away but love this type of Asian bun bakery. Sweet Hut outside Atlanta is my favorite. The concept is very similar, a nice variety of specialty cakes, gourmet cookies, both sweet and savory buns. Japanese cheese cakes and something called a banana hug! I love a good egg custard tart, so I had to try that! It was decent. I wanted to buy a wife cake but the woman working said it wasn’t fresh. I also bought pastry for a gift and was sad to learn that a box cost $5, which is more than covering the cost. So she stuffed my beautiful buns into bags. The cafe is modern and nice but the children of either the owner or staff were running around and throwing pens, etc.
