Amélie's French Bakery & Café
136 E 36th St, Matthews, NC
Crema's Take
“Tucked away in Matthews, this French bakery café enchants visitors with its carefully curated vintage charm—every chandelier and headboard tells a different story—making it feel like stepping into a Parisian corner despite being in North Carolina. Beyond the Instagram-worthy décor, the kitchen delivers genuinely excellent French pastries and tarts alongside solid coffee drinks, creating a space where both laptop workers and family brunchers linger comfortably. The warmth of the staff and the genuine care put into each croissant and cappuccino explain why guests keep returning, sometimes multiple days in a row.”

Stopped by here from out of state expecting it to be a rather small bakery/café and was absolutely pleasantly surprised. The staff and patrons were all incredibly lovely and it was a very comfortable and enjoyable experience. Lots of vegetarian options! Will visit if I come back to Charlotte for sure.
This French bakery lives up to every expectation plus some. The staff is super friendly. The variety of pastries & breakfast items were so amazing we had to come back a second day to try other items. The macaroons are to die for!! I wish there was an option to have my cinnamon roll heated though. The coffee was just the pick me up needed on a cold day. We spent an hour or so looking around while we enjoyed our purchases and it definitely gave off an “Emily in Paris” vibe. Definitely recommend you stop by and check it out!
This place was really neat inside; if you happen to visit Amelia’s, be sure to notice the chandeliers (all are different) the master headboards for the booth seats…the theme, everything is different. However, our food experience stops there, the waffles looked beautiful, but the waffle itself was cold(almost as if it was cooked the night before), on the good side, the fruit was very fresh and only added $1.00 to the bill. The soup was out, what we ordered was not the best soup, my grilled cheese was no t grilled…no butter and the cheese was barely melted. This experience was too bad as we were so happy to share Amelia’s with our out of town guests…but unfortunately it did not live up to our expectations. The pastries looked great and I would highly recommend them…see pictures.
Super cute little cafe with a great selection of French pastry. We tried several things, some of them great (all the tarts are amazing!), some of them meh (chocolate items are slightly too sweet for our taste). Their decor is on point though, lots of great backgrounds for photos. Overall, we had a fun time trying the bake good but won’t be rushing back anytime soon.
Enjoyed my experience. It had been a while and I decided to come with family for a quick little brunch sesh and they loved it. Pastries were nice and soft. Nicely sweetened. Coffee and lattes were very good as well. Nice balance of coffee and sweet. A bit pricey but granted we did buy a lot. Atmosphere is very chill and quiet enough for people to bring their work and have a treat. Lots of parking also, its right in front of Sprouts market and beside the Atrium Health Urgent Care.
