May Day Cafe

Crema's Take
“May Day Cafe strikes that delicate balance between a quick espresso stop and a lingering neighborhood hangout, where the coffee is taken seriously but the vibe stays approachable. The freshly baked pastries and quiches earn genuine devotion from regulars, though the kitchen seems to be in flux—a beloved spot that's in transition but still worth seeking out for its warm staff and thoughtfully sourced offerings that leave Starbucks in the dust. With limited seating that fills up fast, it's the kind of place where you'll rub elbows with other coffee lovers and leave feeling like you've discovered something real rather than just grabbed a drink.”

I have to start by saying that I used to love the food Mayday cafe sooo much. And while I still have love and respect for Mayday, I gotta say, the food is just awful now. I’m not sure how one falls this far from grace. Breakfast sandwich is disgusting. Soggy store bought bread, thin deli ham that tasted like fake smoke, a sad slimy egg and no identifiable cheese. What happened to the fresh baked sourdough? With the nice toast on the outside? The ham slice that was obviously carved from a large chunk of ham? The eggs used to be soft soufflé style eggs. All held together by some gooey delicious Swiss cheese. Why change something so perfect? The rest of their menu is okay, sort of. But nothing like it was. And they got rid of so many of the wonderful foods that made that place unique - I’m looking at you mini topped focaccia. Also - we ordered a m&m coolie and you gave us chocolate chip. My two your old was not amused.
Absolute banger of a spot. Great food, coffee, and culture. Love this staff!
First time coming here with some friends, not a ton of seating, but it was easy enough to get a table for three of us. The quiche was great it was fluffy and super cheesey and it came with with a large side salad. The almond croissant was amazing, nice and flaky and nutty. The breakfast burrito was just okay. The coffee drinks were all super tasty. Overall, I liked this place and will be back for the quiche!
Food was alright. The Bacon and Swiss quiche was relatively good. Didn’t really like how they didn’t tell me that it came with a salad, which I don’t like. Atmosphere is also pretty nice. Liked the paintings they had in there. Relatively convenient as it’s right along the route 14 bus line and a 6 minute walk to the 22 and 8 minute walk to the 23
Beats Starbucks by a huge mile. It's not just the coffee that is good and reasonably priced, but the food is also quite excellent. The croissants are freshly baked, some of the best I've had in the US. Also tried the pesto pizza with goat cheese, and it did not disappoint.
